Metro Fires 20 Managers

From Wiedefeld...

As part of this restructuring, 20 managers are being released from WMATA, including seven senior managers. More than one-third are from the rail side of the house. Others are in administrative areas, including procurement, for example. I hope you will join me in respecting the privacy of these individuals, and note that I will not be commenting about individual employees. CARe also calls for the elimination of redundant positions, and that review is underway.

I honestly never thought this would happen.

20 down - 12,980 to go.

Wonder what kind of severance package they were gifted with?

I suspect the pension plans are still in effect for these employees.

This is qualified good news. These were not performance based terminations. They were supposedly initiated as part of a 'restructuring' at metro. These were also non-union employees. But it's a start.

The problem is getting rid of the non-performing rank and file, who are protected by several unions. Maybe if the non-union managers are made strictly accountable for the performance of their union subordinates, and they are supported by management, then they might be willing to go through the hellish nightmare of documenting their ineffectual employees for termination. We'll see.

I wonder if the unions wield less power if Metro legitimately ends up shutting down large parts of its operation overtime. The risk and impact of a strike or walk out might be a lot less effective. I don't know what jobs are unionized but I always love a feel good story where incompetent people strike and get replaced. Not sure if "managers" and the safety:maintenance people are both unionized and are in the same Union or otherwise willing to stand together.

"Rank and file" is code for "niggers" is code for "all employees".

According to WAPO, only 650 metro employees are 'at will' - meaning they can be fired relatively easily. The rest are unionized.

Until they get rid of all those worthless union employees, METRO will be FUBAR.

It is already the safest form of ground travel in the region.

Safer than walking, driving, cycling. Far safer.

Actually that's not true.

brazen attacks have riders wondering whether the city's popular Metro system is still safe to ride. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser recently proposed a bill that would create stricter penalties for those convicted of violent crimes on Metro trains and buses with perpetrators facing 50% more in fines and 50% more jail time.
