I'm partial to "The Deli". They have a store in the shopping center where Rt 50 and Jermantown intersect and a store in Herndon off of Elden St.

The BEST meatball sub hands down is at Firehouse Subs in Fairfax Towne Center (by the old Tower Records).

I forgot about Firehouse Subs. Yes, they are very good as well. I'd like to see them open more locations in the area.

I've noticed that Quiznos subs always look better than they taste.

im a smoker, therefore my tastebuds dont work that well. im also poor, so i can eat most crap that other would turn their noses up at.
if i had 2 dollars in my pocket, id get 2 McDoubles for lunch... but im just gonna eat a bag of cheerios at my desk for lunch. poor me:(

btw, whats the deal with the double cheeseburger being removed from the dollar menu! times are tough for big coorporations i guess....

I just told my parents that a few weeks ago. Their food is pretty unappetizing compared to what you see on the commercials. Seriously, the stuff you see on TV always looks so delicious. But when you go there, it's a dry, slopped together sandwich with lousy ingredients. And it's a terrible value for the prices they charge.

Agreed, I am always suprised at the cost of Quiznos and it really is not that good either. I would rather make a PB&J for lunch then eat Quiznos.

I just don't like the name. 'Quiznos'. It sounds like I'm going to be tested on my sandwich knowledge before I am served.

I had a really bad meatball sub the other day at Firehouse, so be careful. Sauce, bread, and cheese were great, but the balls tasted like burnt dog food. Could of been a fluke, but disappointing just the same.

When I was at VA Tech there use to be a place called southgate farms (or something like that) that had then best damn meatball sub bar none. home made bread/sauce/meatballs. It was awesome.

Any old hokies remember the place (I was there late 80's early 90's)

The funny part is, they still have a McDouble on the dollar menu. I questioned the difference, since my fave splurge at Nasty McD's was the double cheeseburger value meal which is no longer :( The lady in the drive thru said the only difference is that the McDouble contains "one piece of cheese". Now how's that for saving a buck! Wtf?!?!?!!

I always ordered the double-burger anyways (sans cheese). btw- Wendys has a better .99 menu.

ohno, I think you're thinking of Sycamore Farms Deli, on that street that went behind McBride? They used to advertise a Sub, small drink, and cookie for "a buck ninty nine American!" My favorite was on that same street, Sub Station. I still go there every time i go back to Blacksburg.

YES!! I've been trying to think of that name forever! Thank you! Whatever happened to Sycamore Farms? That place was great!

I think that it was more a catering business all along, then they opened a sandwich shop. Anyway, that location sucked, I think they didnt sell many sandwiches. Then it was briefly a convienience store. I think it is boarded up now.

Santini's in Oakton (also in Reston and Sterling) puts out a pretty darn good meatball sub...

That Sycamore Deli place was the shit. Lots of food for very little money. However for local eats I'd second The Deli in Fairfax or The Italian Store. Also also noticed there is a Firehouse Subs in Manassas- somewhere near the Mall.

My experience with Santini's is vastly different. I'll give the pizza a B+, but of the 4-5 sandwiches I've had there, none graded higher than a C (including one meatball sub). Completely average balls, acidic sauce, and quasi-stale bread.

And you can forget the bland turkey sammich. C-.

+1
Sycamore deli has meatball Monday. It's the shit. $5 for the best meatball sub ever and it comes with chips/cookie/drink. They have decent keg rental, too.
