Pat Benatar is performing on Saturday 6/9, not 6/19. Personally, I'm excited to see Rob Base, Young MC, Digital Underground and DJ Kool on Friday night. The complete line-up is available at http://seanramblings.blogspot.com/2012/03/2012-celebrate-fairfax-headliners.html

Actually,
The county fair circuit is hugely profitable.
They get a pretty nice chunk of change for an hour show.
Well.....The more well known acts do.
Don't know how much the Legwarmers command.

Yes performing for a bunch of middle aged surbubinites or rednecks all saying " Who is she again? ", has got to be a rush. So what is a round number that Pat will get. Since the whole Fairfax Fair is technically a non profit deal, I cant imagine the payout is much.

I have worked for the county for 15 years, the last 5 of those years have been on the committee that helps with the fair logistics. The acts on Friday night receive an average of 75K each to perform. The Saturday night is the main headlining act that the fair expects to bring in the most people. The headlining act on Saturday night receives on average 400K to perform. Not to shabby huh.

Well after working for the county for 33 years I wouldnt doubt they would waste this much money on a washed up act. Anyway I quit taking my family to the fair at night due to the behavior of the miscreants that attend. (not counting the creepy carnies) The whole affair is a commercial rip off anyway.

a couple years ago there was a nutjob standing on the corner right near the entrance with 8 foot tall posterboard pictures of aborted fetuses for the whole world to see...as I approached him with my 2 young kids I shot him a look from hell, he turned the pictures around. As I got closer I told him if he turned them back around for my kids to see I was going to beat his ass right there.

There were a bunch of cops up the street sitting on their asses doing nothing, I told them if they didnt get down there and do something about this guy they were probably going to have a riot on their hands. They just sat there and stared at me as if I was disturbing them. Morons.

no, not salt, or a gnome, or a mushroom...but having those images at an event that draws children, lots of children, is in poor taste to put it mildly. the whackjob, if asked/told to stop, would have no doubt hid behind the first amendment.

Hid behind? Are you talking about that amendment that gives him the RIGHT to display those images at a public gathering? I'm not big on this asshole's imagery, the KKK, etc, but they all have First Amendment rights.

You missed a teachable moment for your kids. Even though this man is deranged and disgusting, he is exercising a right we hold dear in this nation.

yes, hid. he has the right to display images and express his thoughts. however, in the interest of public decency and what is/isnt considered appropriate, he does not have the right to display images that are offensive in nature and subject matter. a photo of an aborted fetus is offensive.

if i was a left wing nut job who wanted no guns period....would you not take issue with me hanging outside the bingo hall your grandmother goes two, toting a big sign plastered with coroner photos of people's half blown off faces from robberies?

your KKK example is another, i too, dont agree with what their message is, but they have the right to talk about it. now, if they came to their little public meetings with photos and effigies of hanged people, that's over the line.

that anti abortion person would have done a much better job had he shown pictures of the cutest babies/infants he could find, with the simple message of - "see what youre missing?".

now, back to pat benatar...will she be sporting leopard print spandex tights??

So does that mean we have the right to hold up a graphic picture in public of two people fucking? I don't think so. I think some of you people might be confused by exactly what our rights entitle us too. Graphic and obsence is just that, and can be considered disorderly conduct among other offenses. Go stand on the corner of 50 and 29 holding up a picture of any random disturbing graphic image and see what happens. You'll be screaming about your rights from the back of a police car.

If so, this man would have been arrested. While disgusting, there is no precedent for these images deeming them obscene.

400K for pat benatar is bullshit. she's played many a small venue that couldn't get close to the alleged $125,000 listed on celebrity talent

acts don't put out for public viewing what they charge. someone went to a lot of trouble to create celebrity talent website

anita baker can still charge $250,000-$500,000 decades afeter her popularity has faded. come on

America only asks $10,000-$20,000. ticket prices at local venues when America plays the area are around $75. Birchmere is 500 seats and Rams Head On stage is around 350. the numbers work out to more than $20,000 for America

no I wouldn't go anyway

Ummm this just goes to show how stupid anonymous posters like you are. You have no clue what you are talking about, yet you express your opinion with a concieted attitude. And you are wrong.

Pat Benatar is making more money now then she ever did.

For instance, Eddie Money makes over $1,000,000 a year playing state/county fairs and casinos from May to September. I am sure Pat and Neil charge a tad more than him.

For the big bucks you can get The Eagles at 1.5 mil. Strangely for the same price you can get Miley Cyrus which is an insult to The Eagles. Tiger Woods also commands the same pice which could be fun if you had a bunch of blonds that looked like his ex show up with golf clubs in their hands.

I wonder from the website do the performers get a percentage of the gate or is it a flat fee? Some of the bands go for less than $10,000 which means in some cases a four or five way split. Doesnt seem worth their while to even show up when you consider travel/lodging expenses plus the % taken by the booking agency.

Really all this county can have as a headliner is Pat Benatar, with all the money we pay in taxes they should be able to afford something better than her.

that site is bogus

most acts don't want their prices advertised on the internet

beastie boys only ask $40,000-$50,000? bet they could still fill medium size sheds and arenas and that would bring them way more than $50,000

eddie money tours throughout the year. another divorce. he probably pulls in a million before expenses maybe

At least Sammy Kershaw, I forgot the year late 90's sometime, was relevant when they brought him in. Every seat was jam packed, and the crowds were incredible. Lots of folks and obviously dough coming in through the gates.

I wish the Celebrate Fairfax would go the PWC route, although that county is far more rural, bring on the demolition derby's and other more entertaining fun like that.

I checked some acts I know what the prices are, and the site seems to be near target or on the cheap side because of "average price".

I know Eddie Money charges $45,000 plus certain expenses for a Saturday show and $30,000 for a slow night or smaller fair. This site says $30,000, so it is about right.

And the last couple tours the Beastie Boys tours focused on the larger clubs not the sheds and theaters, so that is why their price is way down. I may be wrong but I think I am right. Remember it was 20 years they were really hot and how many 40 somethings are going to go out and sing "you gotta fight for your right to party!"?

If the BB played a state fair or outdoor festival there price would go way high.

Remember in 1969 the Who charged $15,000 to play Woodstock and Joan Baez was paid around $10,000. And that again was in 1969.

Talent is expensive.

I think it's great that everyone is talking about the Celebrate Fairfax! Festival three months before the event. I'd like to put some facts out here. You may choose to ignore them, but they are facts nonetheless.

1. The Festival is produced by a nonprofit, not by the Fairfax County Government. Our event revenue pays for our annual expenses and profits go toward the next year's event.

2. While I cannot (by contract) divulge pricing, I can tell you that the numbers you are throwing around are simply ridiculous. I wish I had $400,000 -- or even $125,000! The person identifying themselves as a government employee and being in the know...well, (s)he clearly isn't, because the data cited is woefully inaccurate.

3. There are laws that protect free speech, and while there are restrictions on what you can do on-site, outside the event is public property and laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America apply in all ways.

4. Our event is produced by Celebrate Fairfax, Inc., a 501(c)(3) with a Mission to "Celebrate Fairfax and its Communities." We welcome suggestions from the public on which headliners would be of interest, and we take those opinions in consideration along with a myriad of other factors in making performance offers. We always hope that citizens will find one or more headliners they would like to see at the event, but the festival is much more than that. We have 7 stages of entertainment, a full carnival, 150 exhibitors, vendors and crafters, educational programming, interactive activities, fireworks, and other programs as well.

5. If you are interested in attending, tickets go on sale on April 2nd, and for seven days, you can purchase an individual admission ticket for only $7, which includes admission and all entertainment (including headliners)...a great bargain when you consider how much you pay for a movie, a show at Wolf Trap or other venues, a Nationals or Redskins game, or any other type of entertainment. After April 9th, the pricing goes up...to $9...still a great deal. Day-of-event tickets are $12. And youth prices are never higher than $5!

I think Radiophile is more fascinating. He has some serious insecurity issues. He constantly feels the need to tell you how correct he was in his predictions. Who craves that sort of validation? It really is an extreme case of pathetic and desperate attempts at approval. He must have had some fucked up childhood or be living with an overbearing partner.

Another hilarious and pathetic character trait is how often he lies and then when he gets called on it, he squirms like a little bitch.

It really is sad that he has to come to FFXU to act like the big man. I bet this little puss is a frightened and lame cornered wimp in real life. Aww, c'mon, you know I'm right.

If Pat Benatar is playing some corporate event for Google or Microsoft, she might get six figures. But given that Fairfax County is a public entity, I imagine they negotiated something in a more reasonable range. If you are trying to fill up a tour schedule for the summer and someone offers you $50K for a weekend when no one else is offering you anything, you would be inclined to seriously consider it.

Perhaps Fairfax County will be treating Pat Benetar to one of our more local exclusive upscale dining experiences in lieu of a huge payday?

The only question is, will it be Fridays, Ruby Tuesdays, Red Lobster or The Macaroni Grill?

What? Everyone is anonymous on this forum. You are just as anonymous as I am. I think we can add stupid to the list of adjectives to describe you.

Wrong again. Dazed and Confused took place in the 80s? Really?

You claimed a photo of Obama waving at the UN was faked. You were wrong.

You claimed all OSHA violations are criminal. You were wrong.

You claimed the US does not recognize duel citizenship. The US is silent on it. Once again, you were wrong.

You claimed vegemite was not sold in the US. It is. You lied.

You claimed that George W. Bush siad God told him to invade Iraq. You lied.

You claimed atheists never attempted to convert people. You were wrong.

You claimed Trump never appeared on a billionaire's list, he does and you were wrong.

You claimed Texas receives more in Fed $ then they pay to the Feds. Wrong again.

You claimed that nobody affiliated with ACORN was convicted of voter/voter registration fraud. They were. You lied.

Need me to go on?

You seem to have an obsession with little girls and peeing in panties. That will likely land you in jail, perv.

I never said ALL, and they are technically criminal violations if a fine is levied - just like a traffic ticket. If a death or serious injury occurs, yes jail time could happen as well. I am correct on this.

> You claimed the US does not recognize duel

The US does not recognize dual citizenship. They are not "silent" on it. If an issue comes up regarding dual citizens and you go to the US government to help they will say, "choose one or the other". They are not silent about it. They do not recognize it and are opinionated about it, not silent.

This again, I used the word "they" which I immediately clarified to refer to Kraft Foods Australia. You could not get over the fact I used the word "they" then clarified "they" to the point of absurdity for you. THEY, Kraft Foods Austraila, who is linked in with the most sophisticated supply chain logistics and distribution network in the world, does not distribute vegemyte outside Australia and a couple of native islands and possibly New Zealand. Clear enough for you now?

Trump is not a legitimate billionaire. And any legitimate list would not have him on it. Most of Trumps wealth comes from his accounting for his own "goodwill" which cannot be accounted for unless it is bought or sold.

Again you lie. I was explaining the difference between voter REGISTRATION fraud and Voter Fraud. And questioning why when Acorn was investigated for Voter Registration Fraud (which they were found to be in compliance except for some very low level canvassers - the same kind that fooled Newt Gingrich), that Fox News kept reporting Voter Fraud when that is NOT what they were investigated for and no one ever said anyone cast a fraudulent vote.

Then you must have last looked before 1981 because since then, they have been below a 1 to 1 exchange. Close doesn't matter. It is either above or below. Just admit to lying or making it up.

People were convicted of voter fraud:

3 voting advocates guilty
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 3:33 PM
By Barbara Carmen

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Three staff members for Vote Today Ohio, an independent get-out-the-vote organization supporting Barack Obama, pleaded guilty in Franklin County this afternoon to improper voting.

The three came to Ohio from states where Obama was likely to win in an effort to swing Ohio's electoral college vote toward their candidate, Judge Charles A. Schneider said. The judge gave all three 60 days in jail but suspended it if they paid a $1,000 fine. He also ordered a year's probation.

The three are Daniel Hausman, 32, and Amy Little, 50, both of New York, and Yolanda Hippensteele, 30, of California. They told the court they had good intentions when they registered to vote and cast ballots the same day in early voting at Veterans Memorial.

"I was paying rent and living full-time in Ohio," Hippensteele told the judge, "I didn't attempt to vote in another state. ... I think it's all a misunderstanding. I have a profound respect for the voting process."

Assistant Prosecutor Brian Simms said the three later tried to rescind their registration and cancel their votes; two were successful. Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien had warned visiting campaign staff members that they shouldn't vote here if they didn't plan to stay after the election.

Schneider told the three that "rescinding your request is like giving back the money once you've been caught."
