I have no doubt this is related to illegals and their wonderful import to the USA: gangs. A shame the locust of years past with their pineapples and pinatas have moved on to other more dangerous things.

The trio entered the small Woodbridge grocery and jewelry store Friday night as robbers typically do — hastily, with their faces obscured underneath dark, hooded sweatshirts. But according to police and the store’s owner, the group took nothing, instead opening fire on two employees before rushing out the same way they came in.

One of the employees, 21-year-old Glenda Marisol Coca-Romero, was killed. Another, a 42-year-old Woodbridge woman who police did not identify, was critically wounded. Elias Mejia, the owner of Platanillos Grocery and Jewelry, said the women were both immigrants from El Salvador and loving mothers who came to the United States seeking better work opportunities to support their families. They shared an apartment not far from the store, Mejia said.

“They are good, good people, good workers,” Mejia said, stifling sobs in a telephone interview Saturday. “I don’t care about the property. [The suspects] can steal anything and everything. But I love these people. Good people, hardworking people, they come to America to work.”

Police initially said they suspected robbery might have motivated the attack — which occurred about 9 p.m. Friday at the store on Jefferson Davis Highway — but they backed off that account Saturday, saying they do not yet know a motive. Officer Jonathan Perok, a Prince William County police spokesman, said investigators are still probing the possibility that the incident was a robbery gone awry but noted that the three suspects were in the store “15 seconds, tops,” and left with nothing.

“Since nothing was taken and the guys were in there so quick, we don’t know if it was a targeted thing or if it was a robbery,” Perok said.

Police released a chilling surveillance video of the attackers entering and leaving the store. The video shows the three males — dressed in dark, hooded sweatshirts and with some type of cover over their faces — making their way quickly past shelves filled with flowers and snack foods. They leave through the same door they came in.

Perok said it is unclear how many of the men were armed and how many of them fired shots.

Police said in a news release that a customer was inside the store during the incident but was not hurt. Mejia said a third employee also was there, but he rushed out of the store’s back door as the gunfire erupted.

Mejia said Coca-Romero had worked at the store for a little more than a year, and the other woman for maybe five years. The pair shared an apartment nearby to save money, though they were not relatives, Mejia said. Mejia said that he believed many of the women’s relatives were still in El Salvador.

Mejia said the 42-year-old, who had a boy and a girl, previously had worked at a bank in El Salvador, and he was thrilled that someone with her experience had come to work at his shop in Woodbridge. He said Coca-Romero, too, was a diligent employee and also had a baby girl who was only a few months short of her first birthday.

Neither employee ever seemed to have any domestic troubles or enemies — at least none that were visible at their workplace, Mejia said.

“The intention was probably going just to rob the place, but maybe they get so scared or whatever and they start shooting immediately, I just, I don’t know,” Mejia said. “They didn’t take anything. They just looked like they came in there and start shooting. Why?”

The slaying is Prince William County’s first of the year.

I'm betting this is somehow related to the incident at Potomac Mills Mall and that slashing at Manassas Mall. All of it appears to be gang related.

Why would we send a Salvadoran to Mexico?

The two people shot were Salvadoran women. The perps never even made an attempt to steal anything and just went in, shot them, and back out in 15 seconds. This was a planned hit. Sending someone a message.

They just went in and shot two people and left, not taking anything? Sounds like gang initiations. Maybe they're connected with who killed Kevin Quick, a couple of those arrested were from Manassas, or rival gangs fighting for territory. The FBI needs to come in and round up every gang member in the entire area for answers. We don't really have much of a street gang police unit, do we? Tired of all this violence, they need to be stopped.

I was so angry when first reading what they did, I should have first added how horrible this is, only 21 years old. I feel so sorry for both victims, their family and friends. I hope justice will be swift and since people do reap what they sow, if not caught for this, justice will come. They better heed that, because that's a law of nature.

This is clearly a "Hit" . Prince William county police need to stop blaming African americans and do their jobs .The media sucks as well .This is a Hispanic on Hispanic only crime possibly these ladies knew something that someone didn't want revealed . Is it snitching ? . Ladies of the evening ? Human trafficking ? . Was these ladies involved in something that they no longer wanted to be part of ? . Its easy to get into a gang and death maybe the only way out . My sympathy goes out to the families of these ladies . Folks ... it's not safe anywhere .

It appears to be a robbery attempt. First, businesses in this zone are oriented toward Latin American customers and so is this store. The three men in the video seem to know the store and in which direction to walk. The skin on their hands is visible; clearly not black guys. It's most likely that these guys are hispanic. Regardless, the two ladies working there were mothers. My sympathies for the families.

Police ID murdered store employee in Prince William County
http://wtop.com/41/3569036/Police-ID-murdered-store-employee-in-Prince-William-County

WASHINGTON -- The Prince William County Police Department is asking for the public's help investigating a murder at the Platanillos Grocery and Jewelry located in Woodbridge, Va.

On Feb. 21 at 8:59 p.m., officers responded to the store located at 14342 Jefferson Davis Highway to investigate a shooting. Officers arrived at the business and located two women, both with gunshot wounds to the upper body.

One of the victims, 21-year-old Glenda Marisol Coca-Romero, died at the scene while the second victim, a 42-year-old woman who has not been identified, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported to police that three males were seen entering the store followed by gunshots. The suspects immediately fled the business after the shooting, possibly on foot. Two additional people, a customer and another employee, were also inside the store at the time of the incident and were unharmed. No property or money was taken during the incident, according to a statement by Prince William County Police.

The victims were both identified as employees of the business. A police K-9 was used to search for the suspects. The races and ages of the suspects are unknown as they were all wearing dark clothing.

Glenda Marisol Coca-Romero, 21, was shot while working at Platanillos Grocery and Jewelry and she died at the scene (Prince William County).

Platanillos victim had 'a lot of dreams'
http://www.insidenova.com/news/local/woodbridge/platanillos-victim-had-a-lot-of-dreams/article_8bcc1be4-9ca3-11e3-bf67-001a4bcf887a.html

Cesar Gonzalez met Glenda Marisol Coca-Romero in Mexico, as she was making her way from her native El Salvador to the United States.

“She was so strong and a smart person, with a lot of dreams,” Gonzalez said in an email late Saturday.

Coca-Romero, 21, came to the United States to make those dreams come true for herself, and for the baby girl she had with Gonzalez.

The dreams ended in 10 seconds Friday night, when three men – faces covered and dressed in black – walked into Platanillos Grocery and Jewelry, methodically gunned down Coca-Romero and a fellow employee, then fled.

Police say the three men took no property or cash when they walked into the store on U.S. 1 in Woodbridge, approached Coca-Romero and another employee and began firing.

Though detectives originally considered robbery a motive, now it’s unclear.

Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said they don’t yet know if the employees were targeted. Another employee and a customer in the store at the time were not hurt.

Coca-Romera shared an apartment with the other victim, a 42-year-old woman who also emigrated from El Salvador, Gonzalez said. The second victim suffered life-threatening injuries, but is expected to survive.

Gonzalez said Coca-Romero was a great person and he can’t imagine anyone wanting to hurt her.

“She never said something about if she had any problem with somebody,” he said.

Gonzalez said he and Coca-Romera had plans to “form a family together” with their 9-month-old daughter Britny. He said he will “love her forever.”

Britny is in the care of family members, who are awaiting word on her body being released so that they can make funeral plans, Gonzalez said.

Police are asking the public’s help in tracking down Coca-Romero’s killers. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700.

If it was a simple robbery as you say, they sorta forgot to take anything. Why shoot two people and take nothing? Youre already guilty of murder, so a little robbery thrown in wont make much difference.

She was associating with the wrong gang or something. The other women who was shot was just collateral damage. They wanted to young one.

First off I want to send my thoughts and prayers out to both families.
Now if everyone has seen the video of the ANIMALS that has done this awful thing,
The 3 guys only had gloves on there left hands and none on there right hands, they also touched the door, glass and Ice Cream glass with there right hand that had NO glove on it, so there is there fingerprints, also if you watch real closely after yhey leave the store they run to the left and then back across in front of the door to run across to the right. Also let it be known that it CLEARLY shows that the hands of ALL 3 guys are either White or Hispanic, and No it was not a Robbery since they went in and shot both females making sure that Marisol was Dead. It seems to me that Marisol (Rest her Soul) was the target for this and not robbery cause they never took anything they came in and went right to the 2 females and shot them and left the store. So people please don't assume that it is a RACE thing cause it clearly shows what the guys wanted to do and they did it. Hopefully the cops will catch these guys and that there will be justice for Marisol's 9 month old Daughter and Family as well as the other female and her family..It don't take a genius to see evidence all over this video. I trust that God will have these guys caught as soon as possible. So please keep in mind that there is a baby left behind with no mommy lets see if this community can come up and Help out this baby

Good point, chances are these killers were involved in other crimes that their fingerprints can be linked to.

Detectives searching for clues in Platanillos murder
http://www.insidenova.com/news/crime_police/prince_william/detectives-searching-for-clues-in-platanillos-murder/article_4e5db7a6-a0bb-11e3-8ac7-0019bb2963f4.html

It’s been one week since three gunmen walked into Platanillos Grocery and Jewelry in Woodbridge and gunned down two employees.

Tonight, detectives will gather near the scene of the crime, handing out flyers and trying to find information leading to the killers.

The shooting happened one minute before 9 p.m. on Feb. 21. Three men, faces covered and dressed in black – entered the store on U.S. 1, headed for the employees, fired shots and quickly left.

The incident took place in the span of 10 seconds, said Prince William County police spokesman Jonathan Perok. Detectives are still trying to determine a motive for the crime.

Police also have no accurate description of the killers.

Tonight, detectives will be at the intersection of Bel Air Road and Saxophone Way from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

You're assumptions have no rational to back them up. Three people go into a store located on a strip mall where CCTV is recording their actions, one person is armed. One fires off rapidly, hinting that the weapon that was used is a semi-automatic pistol. Now what are the other two people there for, to pick their nose as a fellow collaborator liters the floor with forensically traceable casing on CCTV?

Does that sound like a hit? I'd say it appears to be a trigger-happy idiot botching an armed robbery from the start, causing his buddies to run out in a rouse.

If it was a hit, wouldn't it be more convenient to have just one person follow her to a discrete location to carry out such an abhorrent act?

Dey terk ur jobz tho.

"Does that sound like a hit? I'd say it appears to be a trigger-happy idiot botching an armed robbery from the start, causing his buddies to run out in a rouse."

Maybe the one pulling the trigger needed the others to positively ID the victim to make sure the right person was being hit?? Trigger man might not have known victim, but the other two did?? Or maybe the other two were packing and cover for whoever else they might come up against in there (to make sure anyone else would be paralyzed by intimidation). Just a thought.

Also not sure these guys are as rational as you might think---may not be a "professional" hit.

Youre giving MS-13 trash way too much credit for being intelligent enough to do a hit properly.

I think this is more likely. So far the authorities haven't been able to find a connection between her and gang activity. Doesn't mean there isn't any though.

Police, FBI offer $11,000 reward in Platanillos murder

Irene Coca stood in a Prince William County police station Wednesday afternoon, looking at the ground and shaking his head as he spoke of his slain daughter, Glenda Marisol Coca-Romero.

Coca-Romero, 21, who was shot and killed at Platanillos Grocery and Jewelry in Woodbridge last month, was hard working and charismatic, her father said.

“She came to this country like many others do, to fulfill a dream, for opportunities,” Coca said in Spanish, speaking through an interpreter.

Coca said he “has no idea” why someone would want to harm his daughter.

can’t imagine how this could happen,” he said.

At a news conference Wednesday, authorities announced they are offering rewards of up to $11,000 for information that leads to arrests and convictions in the case. Prince William County Crime Solvers offers a reward of up to $1,000. The police department is also partnering with the FBI’s Washington Field office to offer the additional $10,000 in this case.

Police said three men entered Platanillos, at 14342 Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge around 9 p.m. Feb. 21 and shot Coca-Romero and another employee, a 42-year-old woman, before fleeing the store. No property or money was stolen and the gunmen were in the store for just nine seconds, police said.

The second victim had life-threatening injuries, but is expected to survive. Police said she was able to give them only “limited information” about the shooting. A third employee and a customer were also in the store at the time and were not injured, police said.

The gunmen are described only as three men, all dressed in black and with their faces covered.

“To date we’ve received many tips in this case but we are still seeking information from the public,” Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.

No arrests have been made. Authorities said they hope the increased reward will encourage people to come forward with more information. Prince William police continue to investigate the case, with assistance from the FBI.

“This was a tragic loss,” said Michael C. McGarrity, assistant special agent in charge of the criminal division of the FBI’s Washington Field office. “Someone knows who did this and we hope this reward money will encourage them to come forward.”

Police do not yet know the motive for the shooting.

“At this point we don’t know if she was targeted, if this was a robbery, we don’t know,” said Prince William police Maj. Steve Thompson. “It doesn’t make sense.”

Coca said his daughter had worked at the store for about a year, after moving to the area from El Salvador about 18 months ago.

As he spoke Wednesday, Coca held his daughter’s 10-month old daughter, Britny, in his arms.

Coca said he will care for his granddaughter now.

“I will try to keep her safe from now on,” he said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700 or 1-866-411-TIPS. Tips can be made anonymously.

Search warrant seeks Facebook records in Platanillo’s Grocery murder
http://www.insidenova.com/headlines/search-warrant-seeks-facebook-records-in-platanillo-s-grocery-murder/article_522f9332-11b2-11e4-a14a-0019bb2963f4.html

Police have turned to Facebook in their search for a motive in the February execution-style killing of Glenda Marisol Coca-Romero at Platanillo’s Grocery and Jewelry in Woodbridge.

It’s been nearly five months since the 21-year-old store clerk was slain and a fellow employee wounded by three masked men at the store on U.S. 1.

Authorities are offering rewards of up to $11,000 for information that leads to arrests and convictions in the case.

Police said three men entered Platanillos, at 14342 Jefferson Davis Highway around 9 p.m. Feb. 21 and shot Coca-Romero and another employee, a 42-year-old woman, before fleeing the store. No property or money was stolen and the gunmen were in the store for just nine seconds, police said.

The second victim had life-threatening injuries, but survived. Police said she was able to give them only “limited information” about the shooting. A third employee and a customer were also in the store at the time and were not injured.

The gunmen are described only as three men, all dressed in black and with their faces covered.

In a search warrant filed in Prince William Circuit Court in June, authorities sought records related to Coca-Romero’s Facebook account.

An affidavit filed with the search warrant, executed June 9, said police were searching for a possible motive in the shooting. More than a month later, there have been no arrests.

At a March news conference, Coca-Romero Irene Coca said his daughter had worked at the store for about a year, after moving to the area from El Salvador a year and a half earlier.

Coca-Romero’s daughter, Britny, who was 10 months old when her mother died, is being cared for by her grandfather.

“I will try to keep her safe from now on,” Coca said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700 or 1-866-411-TIPS. Tips can be made anonymously.

Someone knows something that was not involved in the shooting I'm sure!!! PWCPD just needs to shake the bushes a bit harder and those snakes will slither out to protect their own skins.
