this object was silent, black triangular objects hovering slowly cruising at low altitudes over the tree line. Sighting was at night. These objects had pulsing White lights that appear at each corner of the triangle.

I think I may have seen the same lights though a bit earlier going south on 123 near Burke. Honestly, I thought it was three planes awaiting approach to Dulles but wasn't looking too carefully and then my sight of them was blocked by the trees. I thought is was an odd formation as well but believed my eyes were playing tricks on me.

My husband and I regularly see strange lights and light formations in the sky on 123 heading towards Fairfax Station from the Burke area. It has almost become a joke to us these days and we always asks ourselves, don't other people see this? Why is this not be talked about! It's pretty strange.

I've seen this from Fairfax Blvd between 123 and Kamp Wash

I live near Wegmans store. I had stepped out on my balcony last night around 8:15 pm with my dog and I saw the light in the east moving quietly and fast at first I thought of geese formation but this was no birds no sound. My dog also noticed it and it frighten him and he tried to run back into the apartment but he ran into the balcony door screen instead he was a little shaken.

Would that be the Wegmans just west of Fort Belvoir?
You may be seeing the planes as they fly up the Potomac. Or, maybe, just maybe, the Army does stuff at night.

Thst area is not far from Davison Army Airfirl # Ft. Belvoir-- Perhaps the military has something new and quiet which only flies at night?
I recall that we have a helicopter which is stealth and virtually silent -- the one which crashed in Osama Bin Ladan's yard when we went in and killed him. Perhaps it is a new stealth small plane of some sort.

I don't think this was a plane as it was very low in the sky. And I watch the planes all the time. It moved so smoothly and fast, no sound. Maybe it was some type of new plane, who knows. ????

Pass things without touching them? Are you talking about tree tops? You do know you sound weird when you say this, right?

It is a drone people relax. An advanced next gen drone but a drone nonetheless. Most likely held aloft by advanced lighter than air gasses with sensor equipment underneath it. DARPA and others have been working on what are essentially super advanced blimps for a good while now. Makes no sound? Of course not its held aloft by an unknown gas. Moving slowly? Sure! It takes little effort to push these things so no you dont hear whatever propulsion it is using.
Remember where we are folks. This is the most heavily defended airspace on earth. From Davidson Army Airfield to a dozen other locations they can take off and land almost anywhere. Dont know what to say about the triangular shape I believe it somehow helps the drone move more swiftly.
As for the 3 bright lights these are take off and landing lights. There is somuch light pollution here almost nobody notices. These are high flying drones used for surveillance that can stay aloft for weeks at a time.
Lockheed Martin unveiled a massive lighter than air surveillance super blimp a few years ago that rises to insane altitudes packed with the latest surveillance gear and can stay up for YEARS at a time. I believe what OP saw was just a small version of something like this.
well, yea, but, the article is dated 2004; NIDS closed in 2004, I believe; and I didn’t see a link to the NIDS' study Space.com referenced throughout its article. So, maybe not.
