Olley Lane Fairfax Residents are Posers
Date: January 28, 2016 08:36AM

Last night on local news (forget which one of the big 3 channels) reported live on Olley Lane in Fairfax next to Woodson HS about the residents there enraged at how the plows piled snow on some shoveled sidewalk areas, making it more difficult for the schools to open and their brats to be safe, like they are a cohesive community neighborhood group banding together for the good of the children. Well that's total BS. I just drove it on my way to LR Tpke this morning and from Little Run ES to the Tpke about 80% of the sidewalk areas in front of the homes are unshoveled and have not been touched by plowed snow. How dare you take cheap shots on TV at the plows when your residents are too lazy to shovel their own sidewalks and your spoiled brats are too coddled to perform manual labor.

Sidewalks aren't private property.

Dumbass.

Unlike most other jurisdictions, Fairfax County does not have a law requiring homeowners to shovel their sidewalks, however, the government will NOT do it for you. So go ahead and sit on your lazy ass.

Do it often enough, and a law WILL be passed. A hundred years ago, you would have been responsible to maintain the ROAD in front of your property, not just a sidewalk.

100 years ago, you could marry your 14 y/o cousin.

What's your point?

Sorry. I keep forgetting how needy FFXU douchebags are. The point is that laws were once much more demanding of meaningful citizen participation in the maintenance of public properties and rights-of-way than they are today, and that the wanton failure of lazy-ass homeowners to do so little as to shovel sidewalks and bus stops will be just the sort of thing that pushes local governments back to the sterner tactics of yesteryear. Did you get it that time? .

+1

Doing the right thing without being forced to. The definition of grown-up.

In today's litigious society, you could shovel that sidewalk, someone comes along, slips on ice, and now you are getting sued.

No thanks. It isn't my property, I'm not touching it.

Watching the Facebook page in my ex's neighborhood I saw pleas from the County for people to dig out fire hydrants, to clear the area in front of storm drains and to shovel sidewalks so kids wouldn't have to walk in the streets. Then I saw a notice that VDoT was telling plow drivers to clear from curb to curb and dump the snow on the sidewalks undoing all of that work the County was asking residents to do. It makes you wonder if the different government offices are working from the same plan, and whether they are talking with each other.

There are a few annoying neighbors on Olley who we would all prefer would mind their own business but instead they try to tell others what to do, and get really mad when ignored. They are generally the ones who still have the "slow down" signs in their yards. The county people who have to deal with their calls would prefer telling them to dial 703-EAT-SHIT.

And you ae correct - Most of the sidewalks along Olley have been fine all week. There are other areas of the county that deserve more attention than here.

Meh. They could slip on your unshoveled snow and still sue. The courts around here will still send it to discovery and mediation.

So have some pride and shovel the sidewalk in front of your house. It's one quality that separates you from the apartment dwellers.

And if you already do and your neighbor does not, quit complaining, or shovel theirs too. Whether for pride in helping out, or just trying to shame them.

Are you dense? The snow isn't "yours" because the sidewalk isn't.

If you removed the snow, on property that isn't yours, you've contributed to the accident.

So your argument is that it's best to let the government-owned snow melt by itself because VDOT is not funded to remove it from in front of your house for you?

Feel free to cite Virginia case history from LexisNexis and Westlaw; then we can have a rational discussion on who owns the snow in various circumstances. My favorite discussion is rights and responsibilities when a VDOT contractor puts snow from the street onto privately-owned property and the property owner returns it.

In the meantime, my neighbors and I are having a lot of fun moving it all around and watching it melt. It's been a great week to go outside and play and socialize.

You will be even more upset to learn that a neighbor around the corner has a plow and dropped it on our very public VDOT-owned streets, for which he could have been arrested (it's happened in other areas). But as your heroine Hillary likes to say, at this point, what does it matter?

The sidewalk is NOT private property.

And if I liked Hillary or the other libcunts, I would be "community minded" and shovel it.

You are an idiot of the worst kind, an angry idiot.

Now go shovel YOUR sidewalk.
