Dale gets the benefit of a 10 point scale
Posted by: oaktonmom ()

How ironic that the report cards/evaluations for FCPS are all based upon a 10 point scale. The SOL pass / fail scores use a 10 point scale as does the latest report from Education Weekly.

http://www.edweek.org/ew/qc/2009/17src.h28.html

Guess what FCPS? In our world, you really got a C, not a B. I don't have time to research, but I wonder how many FCPS schools would not meet the benchmarks on SOLs if they were judged using a 6 point scale? FCPS should be forced to be evaluated using the same scale it imposes upon its students!

(I posted this astute finding earlier under another thread)

wow, who cares about any of this. If you have a problem with the school system move to manassas, or send your children to private school.

Gee, how compassionate you are westfield mom. What a shame that not every parent can afford private school and the politicians won't allow us to have school choice.

posting a pic of the guy's house is a little out-of-bounds, stalkerish, and obsessive.

He deserves the house for all the bitching he has to put up with. This is one of the top rated school systems in the country and yet parents always find something wrong.

Neen, while you cannot choose a school, you can choose where you live, and if you go to anyother county's public school system, I guarentee your child will not receive as good an education as one does in Fairfax County. So can everyone stop bitching about grade points, school hours, redistricting, and get the hell over yourselves.

Good for you Mr. Dale. The overwhelming majority of parents are happy with the school system, myself included. It's just an obnoxious small group of big snots that runs their mouthes too much, that have any problems.

Does steve k have any kids in FCPS? That will always be my first question of all the posters proclaiming that the parents supporting the grading scale change are "snots". I agree that FCPS, in general, provides a great education. But I don't agree that FCPS students should be handicapped because of it.

So how come Virginia received an 'F' in college readiness while Maryland received a 'B'?

Because Virginia is a big state. Southern Virginia has jokes for a school system. Fairfax prepares their kids great. Fairfax cannot get everyone in Virginia for school. But I assume if they're grading by counties Fairfax gets an A.

I have had two daughters graduate from Chantilly and Westfield, one graduating in 1999 and the other 2007. I have a son going to Deer Park Elementary. Both my graduates did fine with the grade scale. My oldest went to Virginia Tech and graduated in '03, and my other daughter is at Central Florida.

They never had a problem with the grade scale because it was not one. Many kids from Fairfax get into all the best schools in Virginia and around the country. To say the grading is a handicap is a lie. The transcript shows the grading scale, and if anything it helps children, showing the high expectations that Fairfax has for their kids.

It is really a non-issue, if you look at the other topics on here, FCPS students themselves are saying it's just an excuse for under achievers and is a non-issue. THe grading system has been the same as long as I can remember, and this county has no problems sending their kids off to college, so that is my problem with it. Don't change something if it's not broken. If we were to change, parents of the smart children, would be complaing good grades are too easy too come by, and smart kids would have more competition to get into good colleges.

Whoever posted the pic of Dale's house, can we get the address for that? Time to pull a Dave Kori.

as for the transcript, the grade scale is listed in tiny print at the bottom. If might be easy to miss.

When most major colleges get hundreds of applications from Fairfax kids, the admissions officers catch on.

Dale makes about $300K, about in line with other systems of similar size.

Whether that would support a swell house like the one pictured, (if that's his house), I don't know, but it would seem unlikely.

But unless you know the guy's situation....you don't know.

I have a friend that lives in a $5+ million dollar house...he is a lawyer for a Federal agency, and they don't make shit. If that's all you knew, you'd have to assume he also runs a major drug ring, or something.

The truth is, he married a girl that happens to be an heir to the fortune one the 1800's "robber barons"...a household name that I won't disclose here.

I figure my buddy must really be HUNG to land a gal like that!

The moral of the story: None of you motherfuckers know enough about Dale to comment on his house...

Oh, sure we do. Looks like he has one Gatehouse to live in, and wants several more to work in!
