The direct result of liberal policies. Leveling the playing field as they calls it makes the strong weak and the weak weaker. We need to raise the bar, be real. If you are illegal you get deported. If your kid is stupid he gets put in the LD class. The rest of the kids don't need to be held back because you're a lazy dumbass liberal.
Better yet, fuck public schools and home school. None of these bullshit problems exist.

more free lunch and assistance required at these schools. offset with immersion and other elite specialties. both of these cost money. regular schools lose out.

That's 12 schools. Out of...196. That's 6% of our schools.

I recall seeing this information out last year as well and percentage wise we were still doing better than the surrounding counties. Where's the accreditation info on the nearby counties?

And a lot of those schools are filled to the brim with ESOL students and students receiving free/reduced lunch. Both have massive impacts on their success in the classroom.

That was the whole point of no child left behind - so you couldn't just write off schools that were 'too' black or esol. That's the bigotry of low expectations.

Just because Texas has a few good schools that they target their resources on does not make for anyone with a brain to be able to claim Republican States have the top schools in the country.... But then FACTS have never been the strongpoint of you Obama haters !! SHOCKER !!! If one were to actually research one would find the actual statistics showing the top states educational ranking as follows:

1. Massachusettes- Democratic Governor Patrick
2. Maryland- Democratic Governor O'Malley
3. New Jersey- Republican Governor Chris Christie...aren't you so proud !!
4. New Hampshire- Democratic governor Hassan
5. Vermont- Democratic governor Shumlin
6. Minnesota- Democratic governor Dayton
7. Florida- Republican governor Scott
8. Pennsylvania- Republican governor Corbett
9. Washington- Democratic governor Inslee
10. Colorado- Democratic governor Hickenloper
11. Virginia- DEMOCRAT McAuliff

SO... in short..8 of the top ranked states for education are Democratic governed states... you are a stupid bigot who would not know a FACT based statement if it bit you in your racist ass....your TravonMartin post not cute either!

You're an idiot worthy of your FCPS education.

First of all, you don't cite any source for your 'stats.' Nor have you given any scope or criteria for the rankings. There tons of different "best schools" lists which anyone can play to say whatever they want like every dealer in the country being "the largest Ford dealer" in the same way that Fairfax games it's own reputation.

Second, why are you basing it on Governors? Last year you would have had VA as a Republican state, and, since McAuliffe has only been in office since last month, he can't legitimately be assigned any credit for a past-year's ranking.

And then you want to talk about FACTS? lol

You fail.

From the WaPo this past Sept: "The number of schools in Northern Virginia that fell short of full state accreditation more than doubled in the past year from 14 to 36"

The reality of the situation is that fc public schools are merely daycare centers so mommy and daddy can both go work meaningless govt contracting jobs and still barely afford the $800k house that is really worth about $250k.

Even the smart kids these days are alarmingly stupid and clueless. Of course, after fcps, it's imperative that these clueless spoiled rich kids spend $100k to get drunk for 4-5 years while earning a worthless diploma that won't lead to a career anyway.

Thank god for nepotism amirite!!!

In the world of Fairfax and Karen Garza, "world class" means:

1) Turf fields
2) Band trips
3) Cheerleaders
4) School spirit
5) Lots of "specialists" whose function is uncertain
6) Boosterthon
7) Hiring felons

Everwhere else, "world class" means good education. You won't find that in Fairfax.

U.S. News evaluated over 21,000 schools. The top 500 of those represent the best 0.2% - the cream of the cream of the crop; U.S. News's "gold medal" winners - of high schools in the nation.

If every state had an equal share of those gold medalists, you'd expect each state to have 10 schools listed.

FCPS - just the COUNTY, not the state of Virginia - has THIRTEEN schools in that category: TJ, Langley, Madison, McLean, Woodson, Oakton, Lake Braddock, West Springfield, Fairfax, Robinson, Chantilly, Marshall, and South County. In other words, Fairfax County has more than an entire state's share of top schools within its borders.

The problems with FCPS stem from two things: (1) entitled parents bitching about their kids' grades - which hamstrings teachers from, you know, teaching, because they're not allowed to give little Johnny a "B" for his sub-par, half-assed work - and (2) the xenophobic/racist attitudes evinced in this thread.

The problem for causing FCPS to go down is crystal clear :
poor administration, playing politics, absusing their power but collecting big salary , unethical and felon administrators resulting in abusive , bullying and poor quality system.

Thank you; well said. It seems like the people here who critique the FCPS school system are for the most part people who think that home schooling is preferable to exposing their kids to demographic diversity and radical concepts like evolution and global warming. For the most part, I've been pretty impressed with the caliber of instruction and especially the dedication of the teachers in Fairfax County.

Four years ago, Lynbrook ES had a population of 435. The enrollment is close to 700 students now.
There is no new homes.

How can a school that is small, built sixty years ago, able to manage the overcrowding. The cafeteria is the original size; kids can't fit in it due to fire code capacity.

Kids are tested in stairwells.

Do you think kids will do well on tests when there has been a 250 growth in population(4 families per apartment)? Parents work two to three jobs at min. wage, uncles are lusting after 14 year old females.....

No child should be tested in stairwells. It happens!

All the schoools that made the list pull from generally good demographics, majority white. The ESOL, free lunch and hispanic populations at these schools are below 20 percent. Wealthy areas feeding into schools. I am not being racist, but public schoools that pull from mostly white/asian populations in wealthier areas tend to perform well. Notice how schoools like Lee, Mount Vernon, JEB Stuart arean't on the list.

Fairfax High Rebel Pride forever!!:)

It's not just Fairfax. W-L HS in Arlington just announced a 'renovation' that will add no additional floor space but will up the capacity of the school by 300. That's 10 more classrooms jammed into an at-capacity school.

Public schools are dying. They will become like Medicaid - only for those who have no other option.

What do all the failing schools have in common? very few white students and lots of blacks and Hispanics.
Why can't a politician/school board member come out and just say it? Why are people so afraid of the truth? (yes, I know...no one wants to be accused of racism and have their job threatened.....but someone has to fortitude to stand up) The problem is obviously in the home.
Instead, we get he same BS and the situation NEVER changes.
