do malls exist that you don't have to drive to?

In other words, are there malls that are surrounded by townhomes / high density housing, and not vast parking lots? I can't think of any place like that in this area (well, there have been a lot of residential buildings put up near Tysons Galleria).

It seems malls might better compete with online retailers if they are within walking distance, especially with the move towards more urban living for people raising families, rather than the burbs.

Yeah that's true. Are most people there kind of transients though? I was thinking of more like a community where people raise kids and stuff.

Any mall accessible by foot or public transportation is probably going to be infested with Negroes. Pentagon City is a notorious hunting ground for young bucks trolling for dim-witted white girls. Would that be a problem for you?

There's also Tyson's Corner on the new Silver "That's right, totally NOT black" Line.

The Landmark Mall area of NoVa houses the worst on-line prostitutes in the area.

Has the customer demographic at Tysons changed since the metro was built?

You don't want to live in the city, but you expect suburban institutions to reconfigure themselves so that you can lead a city type lifestyle?

There are townhouse or apartments colonies next to Fair Oaks Mall, isn't there?

You could, until it went bankrupt and shut down. (Yeah, somone is maybe resurrecting it, but.)

That's the whole point of TOD or "Smart Growth". Yuppies who refuse to live there but demand that the suburbs change to bring the city to them.

As for OP - Pentagon City or Tysons are your choices. Although I still wouldn't walk around Tysons much. It's like playing a game of frogger.

Dulles TownCenter is a mall with the space to develop high density apartments and townhomes. Some Asian Condo agencies operate from there.

It isn't completely clear what the premises are in the OP. Are we to presuppose the non-drive is from local housing areas to the mall? If so, Reston Town Center has a lot of housing nearby. Ballston has the Ballston Common, which is mall-ish, and Clarendon has a sort of town center/strip mall of somewhat recent construction. If the starting point is to be a hotel, for out-of-owners here to see the monuments and do a little shopping, Pentagon City has a Ritz-Carlton in the mall, and Tyson's has a new hotel connected to the mall.

Yes, the mall is called Amazon. It's open 24/7, has zero crime, it's never crowded and parking is a breeze. Also, you'll usually find exactly what you want and it'll be cheaper than anywhere else.
