Fairfax County General :
Fairfax Underground
Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Bulova a carbon copy of Connolly and voted with him on every issue. Her attitude is, if the Voters promoted Connolly to Congress, then he must have been doing it right. She feels there is no reason to fix what isn't broken.
If you feel Connolly took Fairfax county down the right path and confortable with higher taxes to come, then you should cast your vote for Bulova.
Yeah, be sure and check her record before you vote for her. The next fiscal year begins July 1, 2009. The projected deficit is 650 million dollars. At a recent board meeting she chose not to address it yet. Herrity wanted to begin making further cuts now to stave off such a hefty deficit. You tell me who made the better decision. Citizens of this county have enjoyed a lot of benefits for years. Those benefits are going to end VERY SOON. Keep this in mind when you vote on February 3rd. Bulova marched lock step with Gerry Connelly for a long time. I'm personally in favor of voting them all out next election for getting us into this mess. Herrity is the lesser of the two evils and at least he sees the trouble that's coming and wants to make deep cuts now. If you want to see how bad it really is just take a look at the surrounding jurisdictions into Maryland. We have the largest deficit of anyone. That should tell you something about the board's fiscal irresponsibility.
Kinda funny, Republicans talking about fiscal responsibility given the deficits Bush ran *during good economic times* and the deficits Gilmore gave Warner.

One of the challenges discxused at the last Republican Govenors Association meeting was re-inventing the brand. It was put forth tht republicans shoul run on their records and promises and philosphy, not spreading fear.
Unfortuneately, June above by saying Bullova will give you higher taxes, proves she did not get the memo.
So the days of spreading fear for the future hopefully will be over.

Fear or facts?
When was the last time Bullova ever voted nay for any reduction in taxes? The last I heard, homeowners will be straddle with higher property taxes in the form of a higher tax rate.
Should we just keep this all hush-hush and wait unti the tax bills are sent out?

You tell me, please. That would be easily verifiable. Saying "If you feel Connolly took Fairfax county down the right path and confortable with higher taxes to come, then you should cast your vote for Bulova" is loioking towards the future. What are you using to base your concussion.
I don't think that this county has any other options available but raising taxes. A $650 million deficit isn't going to be taken care of by just closing the libraries down for one day a week and doing a furlough or two. On top of all that, be sure and take a look at your housing assessment. I guarantee they will have the assessment based on the 2007 value as opposed to that of 2008. That means that every homeowner that has half a brain will have to appeal their assessment to the board in order to get taxes levied properly on their current home. Talk about highway robbery....
Bulova will clone Connolly with housing assessments based on 2008/2009 values, but taxed at a higher rate so homeowners can't appeal.
Bulova will continue to double tax by providing the same services for both the schools and county rather than combining.
Bulova will clone Connolly by continuing to grow the county "government landlord department" by buying low income and public housing at inflated prices. As an FYI: illegal aliens with an anchor baby (or two) is eligible for this housing.
Bulova will continue to provide services to illegal aliens and their anchor babies without meeting the same requirements as legal residents. During the last campaign, Cathy Hudgins told a group of voters that the reason Fairfax County does not check for legal status is because "their documents look so real and they have good lawyers."
When E-Verify was suggested we got the "deer in the headlights" look. E-Verify is free and approved by the Federal Government. It can easily be installed in any government agency (I know this first hand). Once in place, legal status can be determined in minute with no risk of a law suit. The savings to the County tax payers would be significant.
Bulova and others on the Board are intent on simply slice and dice across the board (with the exception of their pet projects), with little regard as to how those cuts will affect the county tax payers.
If anyone on this thread is upset that our Congress is handing out money with little if any oversight, then you should be livid with the County. The only difference between Congress and the County is Congress will simply submit a request to the mint to print more money, while the County will take it out of our pockets to ensure those who made their jobs secure are justly rewarded.
Fairfax County is the fucking mess it is today due in large part to Herrity's daddy.
I wouldn't vote for him for that reason alone....the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
And what's with all this Connolly stuff? I don't care for the guy, but he did just soundly defeat his opponent for Congress! If the same people support Sharon....Jack's boy don't have a prayer.
How is that Tubby? Was he the one that stopped developers paying as much into the system for services and roads? Was he the one that didn't make the hard decision to give the parkway the green light when everybody else opposed it? Was he the one that mismanaged tax payers money to create a possible $650m shortfall? Did he rubber stamp everything that came his way like the current board has done for years? The mess is a result of the last decade or so. You know not so long ago the County Exec predicted that we could see a decline in the economy (not a genius statement since there has been one roughly every ten years now for the last few decades), why weren't we saving enough money when times were good to minimize the effects of such a situation?
As for Connolly I wouldn't be surprised if people voted for him because he can do less damage to Fffx Co in congress than he can on the BOS. His margin of victory also wasn't all that impressive for going up against an unknown. Compare his % to that of Obama's...not that impressive at all.

Like what? Bigger taxes, bigger bureaucracies, and bigger class sizes?

I have very little faith in bureaucracy. I have even less faith in 'the market.'
I've heard taxes are much lower in other parts of the state. Perhaps some of the conservatives can explain to me how high-tax Fairfax and Arlington are the economic engines of the Commonwealth while the low-tax, small-government parts of the Commonwealth have been sucking on Fairfax's teat for the past 30 years.

Because every time our General Assembly representatives go to Richmond, they give up a little more of our tax dollars to the "Rest of Virginia."
Our representatives voted for Northern VA to "self-tax" for transportation, without reducing our percentage to Richmond or increasing funding from Richmond.
Our representatives voted to allow Northern VA to self-tax in the form of a higher sales tax.
February, I don't doubt our respresentatives will find a way to approve yet more taxes, with no offset to or from the Commonwealth.
NOTE: The County can only tax real estate - everything else is approved by the GA
We keep asking Del Plum and Sen Janet Howell why this is happening and all we get is "it's the other guys fault."
The BOS will have a budget shortfall of over $700 million dollars and what does Bulova want to approve, one more TAJ MAHAL that will cost $300 million dollars.
Does she know what fiscal restraint is? I think not.
Read below:
PURCHASE AND IMPROVEMENT OF 8111 GATEHOUSE ROAD
(PROVIDENCE DISTRICT) (5 p.m.)
Supervisor Bulova moved that regarding the request by the School Board that the
Board authorize the use of the County’s Master Credit Agreement to provide
interim financing, and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (the
“EDA”) Master Trust agreement to provide permanent financing, for the purchase
and improvement by the Fairfax County School Board (the “School Board”) of
8111 Gatehouse Road, Providence District, for use as Gatehouse
Administration II, the Board declines to take action and that the Board direct the
County Executive to convey to the Superintendent the substance of the Board’s
discussion in closed session. Supervisor Foust and Supervisor McKay jointly
seconded the motion and it carried by a vote of nine, Supervisor Hyland being out of the room.

By your own admission you haven't voted since Nixon, so why would this be of interest to anyone?

And the best part of this fiasco, further exposing Bulova's pattern of fiscal irresponsibility, the county proposed buying this property at an inflated price based on the value AFTER improvements are made .... FUNDED BY THE TAX PAYERS. And, if that gut grenade wasn't enough for the tax payers, to justify the inflated price, the Board planned to assess the property value as a fully leased commercial property.
This was one sweet deal for the property owner, which may explain why it was done behind closed doors.
When was the last time anyone here agreed to pay more than market value for a property based on improvements YOU planned to make AFTER the purchase?
To justify this scam, the Board listed the property as fully leased warranting a higher assessment ... even though the County was improving the property value by occupying the building.
This is like paying a higher rent in a long-time empty building because your rental agreement increased the tax value of the property.
====
Fairfax County is the largest landlord in the region, owning property valued at half the budget short fall. None of these buildings generate tax for the county and all require routine maintenance and repairs - paid by the tax payers.

It was just commentary....I don't give a shit if anybody is "interested".
Hell, if one were required to be "interesting to post on this site, there would be about a half dozen posts a week.
Oh, and you think your contributions are "interesting, right? Nope, they are predictable and straight from the GOP handbook. One can tune into any number whack radio talk shows and hear the same shit 24/7.

+1 a firm grasp on gov crime and inability of public to "simply protest" it
