Dog Hit on 123 in Lorton area near cross chase court
Posted by: Kitty ()
Date: January 02, 2009 09:26PM

Driving towards Burke on rt 123, a White ford pick up truck hit a border collie/austrailian sheperd.

Several cars stopped except the truck..the dog was caught and went under 2 tires. We found the dog and were there when it died, merely minutes later.

If you know who hit the dog, please let them know, as they continued to drive, while the rest of traffic stopped, the dog died.

I can't believe someone wouldn't stop after hitting someone's pet. It probably wasn't reventable, but the reaction was.

From what I've heard, since its a pet they can be charged with hit & run.

Anytime you hit any kind of property and then flee, you can be charged with hit and run. If the dog was not properly tagged, the guy would have gotten off if he had stayed.

can all of us jusut agree its never the dog who is the problem it is the owner? Cause if an owner can truly train its dog then there should never ever be a problem with the animal being arond things like other pets, children, noises, lots of movement, things that are usually associated with any dog attack of any breed. It all has to do with the training and the breeding.

Dog was tagged, it ran, to it's own driveway and died there...very tragic...I think it is the owner for not keeping it in, but then again, stopping is humane...

If it was an accident then the crime is not stopping. Not rendering aid is cold and heartless, but it sounds like the dog was mortally wounded and nothing could have been done.

Do you have more info on the truck than that? A partial plate? Bumper sticker? There is a thread on this site with truck license plates by the way.

If you hit a dog, make sure it's dead or you might get stuck with vet bills. It's the owner's fault if the dog is running loose.

Honestly don't know the rules on being required to stop it you hit a dog in a road but there's 0 chance you would be responsible for bills/care. They would be retarded to think a dog running into traffic is something a driver would have to pay for. Unless they were driving the wrong direction, ran a red light, or blinded folded anyway

Driver was probably an illegal with no license and drunk etc.

However, doesn't Fairfax County have a leash law? I think the owner is at least partially responsible for letting the dog roam free.

If the dog had been drinking then the dog could be charged with an alcohol related charge by animal control.

If I ever saw anyone do that, I would rip them out of their vehicle, beat them senseless, then drive over them back and forth a few times.

I hit a dog in my neighborhood. Never saw the dog and I ran over it with my right front and right rear tires. I stopped and watched the family come completely unglued. Save yourself the some anguish....keep your mutts on leashes.

If a dog is running loose, it's because the owner.. er, guardian wants it dead. No need to stop for a thank-you.

Dead dog on rt123 is 100% on the dog and its negligent/moronic owners. It'd be idiotic to stop on a 55mph road and cause more deadly accident.
