there is a scam possibly by the wife or kids OR NOT EVEN RELATED to the family
surely the shop he worked for also has insurance - the truck company (va dmv) OBVIOUSLY (in VA, required)
probably family is kinda rich by now and if not VA medial would cover or they should sue the doctors for over billing someone who obviously can no longer pay bills
now the wife - does not owe bills per say except maritally (1/2 est.) because: debt is never owed by family or other persons. the person contracting debt owes it and if the person dies: the debt dies with them. that laws is thousands of years old.
Actio personalis moritur cum persona - A personal action dies with the person.

is easy math if a person divorced gets 1/2 an estate, and only one person is injured and gets doctor bills, the limitation on billing is: 1/2 the estate or equivalently: one person
