McAuliffe Lift Ban on Food Trucks Today
Posted by: Yummy ()

Good news today for Virginia food truck operators and their many customers: governor Terry McAuliffe will sign a bill at 3 o’clock that lifts the ban on food trucks serving from state-maintained roadways. Previously mobile vendors were confined to operating on private property, which excludes many of the streets in the Washington area.

“The way that Virginia has developed, that majority of the streets are state-maintained,” says Che Ruddell-Tabisola, executive director of the DMV Food Truck Association. “Arlington is a good example—if VDOT [Virginia Department of Transportation] is plowing the snow, there’s no vending.”

The signing ceremony with governor McAuliffe, sponsor delegate Eileen Filler-Corn, and several food truck operators will be held in Tyson’s Corner on Greensboro Drive—formerly an area of contention, where operators were sporadically fined by police, despite public demand for their presence in an area with many offices and few walkable dining options. Vending regulations have gradually improved up to this date; a 2014 rule in Fairfax County allowed trucks to do business in office parks and shopping centers like Tysons, lowering zoning fees from over $16,000 to $100. The latest bill represents another step forward, both locally and nationally.

for example long ago i remember icecream trucks in fairfax

they didn't stop because of richmond law. they stopped because it was no longer financially working out for them - and they apologized to the public with that reason when they bowed out

There was a ban you dumb fuq. You can't sell merchandise from public roadways because Richmond wouldn't allow it, even though Fairfax did pass some law last year that said on private land they could. This law resolves that. It was a big deal because all the food trucks serving around the county kept having cops called by local deli owners.

Ignore the political hacks from the right on this website. No matter what anyone does, if they have a (D) in their name they did something bad, even when they supposedly support more business and less regulation. This got rid of a bad regulation. They are too stupid to see it.

Old law for the dumbasses on this thread

VDOT regulations and Chapter 82-1-30 of County Code prohibit the sales from vehicles parked along roads, highways or streets. Food trucks may not sell food while parked along any street in the County. Violators may be ticketed by Fairfax County Police Department

That is no longer the case. Suck one.

Then why have I seen ice cream trucks selling ice cream on my street for the past five years? Have they been violating the law the entire time?

^Another conservatives who is wrong. What a surprise.

The original ban was put in place by good buddy and corperate bribe acceptor criminal Gov (R)McDonnell. The ban was put in place because large restaurant chains were losing money to food trucks.

The complaint from big chain stores lawyers and lobbyists was "unfair for food trucks to not have to own property and pay property taxes.

I don't know if you have visited the area since the ban, but an entire area has been reconstructed for the food truck business!!!

I really wonder how much the food trucks have to pay now to be in these spots where these NEW benches and tables along with spots for the food trucks to place their cars within feet of them.

Was it a ban or a ploy to get more money out of them to make equal ground with the other local businesses?

How is this a good thing? Do we really need food trucks along the side of the road? Pack a lunch people, or go to a damned restaurant! This will only further making our home look like some fucking third world country!
