I have only seen clips on youtube but it seems like an excellent drama, but I don't know where to view the episodes. Is anyone here familiar with it?

Yea, it was a German mini-series (actual title, Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter) from several years ago. It was quite controversial because of it's pro-German slant, which isn't politically correct in Germany for anything about WWII.

You can buy it from Amazon, probably find it on Netflix. It's very good but pretty bleak, since it takes place on the eastern front, where they were no heroic Amis or dashing Tommies. Just Fritz and Ivan slugging it out inch by inch.
