Jack Diamond Returns to DC, Leaves Florida Station; Fans Hope for Return to DC Airwaves

Will the former 107.3-FM morning host ride the airwaves again in DC?

Less than a year ago WRQX 107.3-FM's Jack Diamond Show was unceremoniously yanked from the DC-area airwaves, sending shockwaves through Diamond's longtime fan base, who were left to wonder: "Why?"

After 24 years on the air, corporate honchos at Cumulus Media in Atlanta seemingly on a whim substituted the longtime hometown show for a syndicated show out of Atlanta. Diamond fans quickly made it clear they would have nothing to do with the new show, openly dissing the program on social media. (The latest ratings for WRQX can be found here.)

Diamond kept in touch with his fans on his Facebook page and on Twitter, sharing photos of his travels, and later, news that he had signed on to host a radio show in Florida.

On Friday, Diamond told fans on Facebook that he's decided to leave the Florida radio gig at 101.5-FM and return to the Washington DC area, where his family lives.

Speculation immediately grew by fans that perhaps he might be returning to the DC airwaves, but Diamond plays his cards close to the vest. Dave TV recently mused that Diamond might be making a DC comeback, on WASH-FM.

Diamond, who plays in a band, did say that he might gather up some friends to play some music soon. His radio fans? They'll have to stay tuned.

On Friday, Diamond told fans on Facebook that he's decided to leave the Florida radio gig at 101.5-FM and return to the Washington DC area, where his family lives.

I listen to 107.3 off and on and I enjoyed Jack Diamond, but I wasn't a loyal listener. Half the time my radio is tuned to ESPN980 or some other station.

It says a lot about this area that his show was so popular and there was such a public "outrage" when he was fired...

I mean, back in 1984 every FM morning program sounded like his show. He just kept doing the same show...while the market changed with the times.

With as many stations as this area has, why would that be a bad thing? I never understood the logic that every station needs to be like every other. And no I am not a fan.

I miss Diamond's morning show. He played the stuff my elementary kids like to listen to but without all the lame and unfunny sexual innuendo and potty "humor" that is inappropriate for young kids. 107.3 is indistinguishable from the others now, so we have to listen to WBIG on the way to school now.

Say what you want about Jack Diamond, the Bert show sucks. No music and the most inane talk possible.

He and Pat Collins should be in a cage match to determine who gets the championship belt for fuckwit douchetard. Two douches enter, one douche leaves.

It'd be better if neither of them leaves. Maybe they can just cancel each other out...

Diamond was let go because his genre doesn't fly with the kiddos who buy things. And this article makes it sound like a shock even though Cumulus almost didn't renew him a couple of times before. I have nothing against Diamond, but with the exception of Don Geronimo - for now, anyway - DC is No Country for Old DJs.

You have to be a total loser to latch onto a radio "personality". Just STFU and play some music!

I think the listeners liked it when Jack would talk about a lot of the personal crap in his life. Stuff like his home, his drive to the station early in the morning as well as other crap that would happen in his life and with hid family. I'm not sure how people could latch onto all of that, I happened upon his station a few times and couldn't believe that he actually was given the air time in the mornings.
