Metro is completely broken. It's a third world shithole.

Go ride the high speed trains in China or their subways to experience first world public transit.

I found the ads on the Post's webpage for this story ironically apropos.

The unspoken message seems to be, "Use our Lexus lanes so you don't choke on the Metro with the rest of the plebs."

Metro is utterly corrupt. There have been numerous reports of illegal and sometimes violent management. It is a system where jobs are given out as favors and merit is ignored. No one from the outside is hired and people on the inside work when and where it pleases them.

Im surprised there have not been more fatalities.

WTF are 10000 employees doing on a daily basis?? Remember when the U.S. govment gave millions to maintain the New Orleans dike system? And the corrupt New Orleans city gov run by you know who took the dike money and bought gambling boats so their families and friends had high paying jobs?? Then when the dikes failed during the big hurricane, the black folks blamed Bush. Duh. Asshole thieves were to blame for the dike failure. Not Bush. Obviously the fire in METRO is Bush's fault. Couldn't be the "10000" employees. Nah. I still can't believe there are that many employees for something that should pretty much run on a computer program??

The Metro disaster is different - it is run by a virtual monopoly of local DC idiots 97% of whom are black. Its not their color that is the problem it is the corruption.

The levees and channels of the Mississippi are under federal purview. Flaws in the levees in and around New Orleans were well known prior to 2005, and long-term programs to upgrade them were underway. Bush diverted money and manpower from those programs to programs in and related to Iraq. Even if he had not done so however, the levees would have failed during Katrina in much the same manner as they did.

Metro is run by a Board of Directors comprised of two voting and two alternate members appointed by each of Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, and the federal government.

Manasshole is correct and Army Corps is wrong. Bush was not at fault for the Dike system failure. I believe the dike system should be implemented wherever there is the potential for disaster. Dikes are loyal and hard workers. Due to all the criticism brought on by their lifestyle, they have a tendency to overcompensate as a defense mechanism. They are also usual very strong. (perfect for carrying sand bags or pushing savages off a packed metro train) The majority of dikes have spent time as physical education teachers which is a physical job that requires strong organizational skills (have you ever tried to coordinate a crab soccer game?) If the Dike System had been in place, yesterday's tragedy could have been avoided.

Its never good when there are ejaculations in the subway system.
