Cool...thanks for all of the responses. Does anyone know why he chose to live in NOVA? He was from north of Pittsburgh and back in his day WWF was primarily a northeastern regional sport. Wasn't Richmond the furthest south they held their bouts? Just curious...

Sometimes on foggy nights on Parliament Drive, on nights just like last night, you can see the ghost of Big John Studd roaming the street in search of a re-match with André the Giant!

Also, a big part of his career was wrestling in the "Mid Atlantic Territory" (mid-late 70's, early 80's). They did their thing in North & South Caroline, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, etc, so perhaps he settled down in Northern VA during that era.

yes, he did. he also was a member of Parliament pool. One time my dad and I pulled into the cul de sac where he lived and just waited in our car in the pouring rain at the stop sign to see if we could see him (stalking:)). he pulled out of his garage in his Cadillac and stopped to talk to us and said. were you looking for me?, cause sometimes my friends like to stop by. we said no, and he smiled and took off. dude was huge!

When Rolling rd was widened between the tracks and Burke lake rd 20 years ago Big John stopped by as our day was ending and gave us a case of Budweiser. He did it a few times. Really cool guy.

He was a member of our church but since we were fairly new to that church we did not know him or know that he was a member. When they did prayers and concerns each week they would ask for prayers for John Minton who was fighting cancer. Eventually the week came where they announced that he'd died. It wasn't until the obituaries and articles came out that I realized they'd been referring to Big John Studd all those weeks.

I knew Big John personally. His son was my teammate for almost all the years I played youth hockey at the NVA club. He came to all the games, and I went to the wake when he passed away. There were a lot of famous wrestlers there.

I feel lucky to have known him. It was strange when we would go to hockey tournaments out of town because kids would come up and ask him for an autograph. To me, he was just "Mr. Minton."
