Just wondering if there is a documented black bear population in this area or any of Fairfax for that matter.

Saw one on the skyline drive, was in the distance and was a little fella.

My buddy hung out the window with a baseball bat and at about 10 mph scored a home run with its cute little head!

things have hard skulls he nearly broke his wrist.

On the bright side, he'll have lots of time to do rehab with all those handy prison bars.

Fairfax County will send the merry boys in green tights with bow and arrows after them. They will usually maim more than they will kill like the deers.

If we would have never stole from and treated like shit the native americans. They would have this under control and they did know how use bow arrows control the animals.

So sick of hearing about how we mistreated American Indians. Wasn't every country founded on displacing natives, invasion or war? Maybe if they had invented tactical crossbows we'd be living on reservation.

Bear was near southwest side of Vienna. About 5 or 6 years back, if I remember correctly.

I saw numerous police and animal control on 123 a few blocks from Nutley St. At the edge of Vienna, probably just outside the town limits. Pretty close to James Madison High School.

Officers were on the Madison side of 123 back in a line of trees.

Heard later on the news that a small bear had been in the trees there. He was tranked and relocated to some park out in Western part of Virginia.

More recently, two bears were spotted in Vienna in April. http://www.wtop.com/41/3611367/Black-bears-wander-into-Vienna-backyard

So, what you're saying is that even bears love Vienna?

I'm sick of hearing about it too, especially if it's coming from a dumbass white liberal. BTW, I've never lived on a reservation.

I don't think the Bears and Deers have anything to worry about. They probably sit back in the woods drinking a Mai Tai watching those merry Robin Hoods and merry boys in green tights trying to sneaking up on them with those tactical crossbows.

Guns made bows and crossbows obsolete and a hobby for the gentle merry boys. That a FACT, even the Great Native Americans knew it.

Bears tend to congregate where there is a large and easily accessible amount of trash.

Bears go where there is food, dead, rotten or stinky. If dead, rotten or stinky food is in the trash, on the road (roadkill) or in your back yard/porch, they will go there.

Yes, black bears have been spotted in Fairfax County.

Documents black bear sightings have occurred along the Potomac River and have been seen not far from Langley High School in residential areas in the past 10 years.

Outdoor trashcans and bird feeders are very common items that attract bears into residential areas.

Bears typically travel/live in areas of around 25-50 square miles and will often be found near water. But more often than not if food and open space is widely available, bears usually do not wander into residential areas.

Well that crossbow idiot must have had his head up his ass, bears are extremely dangerous animals. I remember back in the 80s some guy got attacked by a Kodiak bear out near Front Royal. They're not harmless at all.

Saw a pretty big one crossing Fairfax Co Pxwy a few years back, just north of the Braddock Road exit, coming out of the GMU woods on the east side of the road, and heading into the woods/neighborhood towards the west. Only one I've seen in Fairfax. I've heard about people seeing them in the Leesburg area off of Route 7.

We wanna see less bears in our residential areas? We need to procreate less. The more we destroy their natural habitats for development, the more we will continue to see wildlife such as bears and foxes in our neighborhoods.

Maybe we should breed bigger bears to scare away all the little ones we have now, then we can jaguars to get rid of the bigger bears.

I think the poster meant Polar Bear. Kodiaks now winter in Florida.

I have heard about the few stories posted already but I was more wondering if any of the parks have resident bears not transient bears looking for a home. I know the Prince William Forest has a ducmented black population thats why I was curious about Fountain Head.

I wonder how many they mean by "healthy"
"There is a healthy population of Black Bears living in Prince William Forest Park. "
