Feds Looking into Suicides

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) -- Federal and local health officials are investigating potential suicide clusters in Fairfax County following the deaths of three teenage girls since September.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the county health department are looking into the suicides at the request of state health officials.

The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/1BMLBN2 ) that CDC experts have led focus groups with parents at eight area high schools to identify risk factors and suicide-prevention strategies.

Three Fairfax County teenage girls have died in apparent suicides since September, an alarming rate for a county that saw 13 suicides among girls between 2003 and 2013.

The school system began overhauling its mental-health policies following six suicides in three years at W.T. Woodson High School and two suicides within 24 hours last fall at Langley High School

Who knows for sure, but it's not hard for anyone to see all the issues we face as a nation - national debt, immigration, the high cost of living, traffic, pollution, terrorism, etc. and think that the world is in bad shape. Also, modern technology leads to isolation; social media is anti-social really. We need to get back to talking on the phone, and speaking in person more often. Also, modern dudes for the most part are wimpy little hipsters and girls are dissatisfied with their options.

It is more than just the high school kids, a bunch of college kids committed suicide at the beginning of this school year as well, withing day or the first month of classes.

Then you have the "accidents" that happen at colleges that you do not know if they were really "accidents" or something a bit more intentional.

Really sad when kids seem to feel so alone, abandoned and have no hope.

I believe one of girls in the article above lost her mother a few years ago, was REALLY close to her older brother that recently graduated from HS and went away to college. I think this girl had lingering issues from the loss of her mother.

Really feel bad for her dad and brother as they have lost 2 close family members in a few short years.

Has any of this led you to have thoughts of suicide? Did you think that those living in earlier eras could not have made similar lists? Was it all some Norman Rockwell painting back in the day or something? Would you expect an Obama supporter to be as depressed about things as you are?

Right. Cell phones made them do it.

Still single, are you?

Some facts: Teen and you adult suicide rose through the 70's and 80's, peaked in the early to mid-1990's, and have been declining since. Rates for middle-aged Americans have been a mixed bag, while rates for older Americans have been in sharp decline. Rates for those 65 and over are half what they were in 1950. All in all, the situation is quite complex. Idiot and partisan sound bites are not going to cover it.

Don't forget the liberal illusion that homosexuality is an acceptable lifestyle choice, yet inevitably leads to disappointment and pain, ultimately ending in life-ending choices when children are rejected by their families for making that choice.

I blame religion. All of these promises of a better and greater afterlife makes the undeveloped mind of a teen jump toward the land of instant gratification. Kids either have access to shortcuts (technology) or they will make them up as they go. Risk equals pain and reward equals pleasure. No likes to be in pain.

Most people don't believe in risk factors based on superstition.

I think that kids these days have it so good, when it goes south for them, they just don't know how or don't want to cope with it, so they off themselves. Very sad.

When did you choose whatever phony sexuality you claim, assfuck? Answer: NEVER. Because it isn't a choice at all. You are what you are (which includes stupid in your case), and you ain't what you ain't.

Meanwhile, the most significant variables in negative social outcomes among gays are not being gay, but the persecution of them by MINDLESS FUCKING ASSHOLES SUCH AS YOURSELF.

You're right they have "No Choice" and are doomed to look like this right?

Of course the Fed's are looking into it. On your phone, in your house, in your car, in your bedroom, they're everywhere. Welcome to socialism. Thanks Obama fans -- brilliantly played.

The irony is, all that surveillance and they still don't know anything. Where's that missing Malaysian plane? Where's missing moon rocks and JFK's brain? Tax dollars pissed away.

This post is evidence of the pain and strife they bring upon themselves. This poster has chosen to embrace the gay life style and finds it unfulfilling, and lashes out in anger at others. A sad end waits for him, either by his own hand or at the hands of a stranger in some sleezy hotel where he'll be turning tricks, all the while saying it wasn't a choice when he knows it is. His family has abandoned him, and he seeks acceptance from those who have made the same bad choice he made. Death awaits and will be the only escape from his anguish.

How can other stop persecuting you when you persecute yourself so?

Parents should make sure children have their names stitched on their underwear for identification.
