200K is not a lot of miles for a REAL diesel engine (wet sleeve). Most of the county's buses are powered by 6.0 or 7.3 Navistar "throwaway" (dry sleeve) engines and 200K is a lot. The same engines were sold to Ford Motor Co, who called it the "Powerstroke" for use in their light trucks. The 6.0 engines were SO bad (buybacks and warranty costs) that Ford now produces their own diesel engine for their light trucks.
About 100 2006 IC RE have the 6.0 garbage motor. A lot of them won't start regardless of the weather.
Bus model years are a year off. ex: 2013 went into service in 2012. They do this because many states have age limits for buses. School systems get an extra year out of them that way.
BTW, all their IC CE buses are short HP buses and they get grants for those. The IC REs are the big buses.
