Inexpensive hotel, inexpensive lodging options near the Tyson Corner metrorail stations?
Posted by: Inexpensive ()
Date: September 27, 2014 03:21PM

A friend is coming from out of town to attend some of the Nats playoff games but he cannot stay with me.
He wants to stay on his own somewhere so he can come and go as he pleases early in the morning or late at night.
Are there any inexpensive hotel options near the Tyson Corner metrorail stations?

Why would anyone want to spend over $100 a night for a room? Its not worth it.

The McLean Hilton is a nice hotel that is reasonably priced, particularly on weekend days. It is located very close to the Metro Station and has a shuttle that will transport patrons there if they don't want to walk.

There are several, including the Hilton, Holiday Inn, Ritz Carlton, Marriot, etc.

Stupid question as in it's Tysons's Corner, and being Tyson's Corner, living space (hotels rooms count as such) isn't cheap. I think you'd be hard pressed finding a budget place in Tyson's.

Maybe on priceline you can fandangle that rate, but not the Ritz. I stayed there once and it was like $400 and change.

The McLean Hilton goes for $89 on weekends. The Hilton Garden Inn at Tysons Corner goes for $99.

The wolftrap hotel is not really too bad. Most of the regulars there are out of town working men. I spent 9 days there when I was between houses and found it dated but reasonably clean and safe. If you have to you can walk to the metro (about a mile) but you can catch the bus or cab easily. The vast majority of the guests are gone by 6 am and do not return till after 6 pm. Lots of rooms are empty on the weekends. 60 bucks a night is about the average price and they have a weekly rate that is a cheaper deal with maid service every other day.

Best suited for long stays...herp, derp...but they take 1 nighters. Typically $85 on Fri or Sat nights. Clean and comfortable but zero amenities.

Any particular reason it has to be Tyson's? The Econo Lodge on Lee Highway near East Falls Church station is a lot more convenient for using metro, and the price is reasonable.

Hyatt House in Merrifield (Mosaic District) is $99 and is about 1 mile straight shot from Tysons. It's in the Mosaic District with restaurants and movie theater.

I have seen hookers strolling through the parking lot of Wolf Trap. NOT high-class hookers. I mean, these girls were obviously street trash that had been working the place.

Your Mom has a good suggestion about the Hyatt House in Merrifield. It's reasonably priced, there are plenty of restaurants, and it is a short walk to Dunn Loring metro. It is well worth checking out and might be the best solution to the problem. There is nothing objectionable about Merrifield.

Yeah I wouldn't try to sell that as a 'short' walk. It's not that far and easily done unless you're a fat ass but not like right across the street. A good 15 minutes. In the rain, heat, cold it would be a pain in the ass.

Four Sisters Restaurant, Sea Pearl Restaurant, Matchbox Restaurant, Cyclone Anaya's Restaurant, Cold Stone Creamery, True Food, Chipotle, Le Pain Quotidien are all in the Mosaic district and easily walkable from the Hyatt House. Less formal food options include the Angelika Film Center, Starbucks (located in Target), and the deli in Mom's Organic Market. A little further afield are Silver Diner, Chevy's, Five Guys and Sweetwater Tavern. There are more, but that ought to be enough if the guest is staying a few days, and will be at the ball park some of that time.

Merrifield... excuse me... 'Mosaic' is pathetic.

But there he will get a true taste of the pasteurized, strip-malled nothingness that is NOVA.

As a highlight if the weather is nice, you can take him for a beer at Grevey's and sit out on the deck and watch the sun set over the Shell station.

+1

I'm heading over to Mosaic now for an upscale night out. Going to get my car washed, for dinner, I'll head over to the shopping center where Vanessa Pham got kidnaped to get some Peruvian chicken. Ill pick up some used t shirts at unique while I'm out there. I'll probably check out Mosaic nursery tomorrow and get a pumpkin.

If you can fit it in, the Taco Bell Memorial is worth a visit.

The kids might enjoy the live seafood section at the H-Mart. It's almost like a trip to the National Aquarium.

Remember, if you get turned around just look up and find the TV towers and you can always find your way. From the intersection the tall tower is due east, shorter towers due west.

It appears that NOVA in total does not meet DeN3t's standards for livability. OP ought to advise his friend to seek a more aesthetically pleasing venue to visit. While he is at it, he can look for a locale that has a high percentage of residents who lack the capacity to recognize the self-canceling nature of their own statements in online fora, as that appears to be a requirement for meeting DeN3t's high standards.

Tyson's Corner Marriott is advertising $119 per night. Priceline or one of the other sites could possibly get your traveler a better rate, or he could contact the hotel directly and ask about specials. Pretty sure they have a courtesy van, but he might want to establish that with management before booking.

More than that actually. As "Trio trio" should have suggested, there are actually three establishments in that group, and as you don't seem to know, Halstead Square includes even more -- Blackfinn, Lost Dog, Passion Fin, and Ovvio among them.

There is a Home Depot in the area as well, but the excellent Italian food truck that used to park there does not anymore.

About as pathetic as Penn Quarter, NoMa, or the Atlas District downtown. The Mosaic District will be the Mosaic District, and Metro West will be Metro West. Deal with it.

What a bizarre notion. People who are interested in watching the sun set and are not also as stupid as a stick would not go to Grevey's to observe the event.
