Fair Lakes Construction

Does anyone know what is being built on the large clearing at the corner of Fair Lakes Circle and Fair Lakes Parkway? This the area right next to the gas station, McDonalds located off Shoppes Lane.

Also, anyone know what store is under construction in the Fair Lakes shopping center? It's to the right of Noodles & Co, Petsmart, etc.

Fuck fair lakes, when are they gonna be done on Stingfellow road? They've been working on it for about the last 6 years. Probably the same company that built the Obamacare website.

Mrs. Green's Natural Market is going in the shopping center.

They didn't ask what is going in the shipping center, they asked what the construction is. The two are unrelated.

Here's a tip, it's called Google: "vdot stringfellow road project"

First hit: http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/northernvirginia/stringfellow_road.asp

Tells you all about it.

Estimated completion: July 2015.

Thank you. Stop complaining.

The Fair Lakes League (a business group) sent out their winter flyer today and said nothing about it. You can email them to ask at fairlakes@powerscommunications.net.

Interesting note: If you try to look up that parcel's property record at Fairfax County iCare, it won't tell you anything. I don't know what that means -- nobody owns that parcel? You have to be somebody special to see the property record?

The official address indicated there is 12734 Shoppes Lane, map #0552 05 D3.

Go to http://icare.fairfaxcounty.gov/arcgismaps/arcgismapdatalet.aspx?sIndex=2&idx=1&LMparent=138 to see the property across the street. You can then click on 12734 and see what I mean.

LDSNet, the county land use database (http://ldsnet.fairfaxcounty.gov/landuseSrch/default.aspx)

Also has nothing on that property.

Finally, http://ldip.fairfaxcounty.gov/ is supposed to have consolidated records (zoning, permits, complaints, etc.) but if you look up Shoppes (as in Shoppes Lane), you get nothing on that property.

Very frustrating. Somebody must know something but apparently the county knows nothing.

It's going to be a CVS. I asked the gas station attendant at the Sunoco next door.

Fuck CVS. I liked the trees. Will they not stop until everything from the Potomac to Gainesville is pavement?

Looks like the CVS was approved by the Planning Commission last year:

Wow. If a CVS is going to be built, then that must mean a Walgreens will be built too. Those two places need to be right beside each other.

Good fucking lord. It probably only took a couple of months to build the road to begin with and now it takes 4+ years to widen it? I think in cases like this it is less of an inconvenience to just shut the road down, widen it, then reopen it rather than try to do it in little baby steps so as to not "inconvenience" commuters.

I can't remember when Stringfellow wasn't under construction. I avoid it like the plague.

The construction started with surveys in 2011. They started tearing down trees and digging things up in about mid-2012 if I remember correctly. Bing Maps still shows how it looked when they were just beginning the project (the crews were just starting to set up across the street from the Chantilly High School ball fields).

http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=38.877331~-77.408771&lvl=16&dir=0&sty=x~lat~38.877331~lon~-77.408771~alt~73.15~z~30~h~184.1~pid~5082&app=5082&FORM=LMLTCC

The reason it is taking so long is that Stringfellow not only has become a major artery, but there are so many power lines, gas lines, and part of the Colonial Pipeline runs along Stringfellow Road. They had to relocate all those utility lines and do some serious grading before even starting on the surfaces. The section between Fair Lakes Parkway/Northbourne and Point Pleasant looks like it will be completed first, because they're still leveling and grading between Point Pleasant and Chantilly High School. Painful right now, but like the Fair Lakes/FFX Co. Parkway interchange it will be nice when it is finished.

CVS?!? really?!? That space just doesn't look big enough for your average CVS footprint. If I didn't know better, I would say it looks more like a storm water retention pond.

It's a CVS alright ... http://ldsnet.fairfaxcounty.gov/ldsnet/ldsdwf/4402207.PDF

Highlights:

-reconfiguring the parking lot associated with the service station/quick service
food store on the northwest corner of the site;
-providing a shared access from an existing access point on Shoppes Lane
between the proposed drive-through pharmacy and the existing service
station;
-replacing an existing on-site stormwater management catch basin located on
the northwest portion of the property (which contains mature quality tree
cover) with an underground stormwater management facility, and
supplemental landscaping;
-retaining the existing drive-in financial institution located on the southwestern portion of the site as an interim use;
-carrying forward a previously approved 110,000 square foot hotel with
support retail development option located on the southern portion of the site
(replacing the interim financial institution);
removing the existing car wash associated with the service station;
-removing the existing service bays associated with the service station;
-renovating and expanding the service station/ mini mart into a service station/
quick service food store (a total of 2,503 square feet);

Looks like the aforementioned Mrs. Green's is already closed in Fairlakes. Too close to Whole Foods.

No surprise--that store combined the worst features of Whole Foods (high prices) with the worst features of a traditional health food store (horrible produce, sketchy meat). I tried to like it but just couldn't.
