What was the deal with all the protesters at PetLand today?

Here is an idea, ASK or READ THE SIGNS.

When I see protesters the first thing I do is find the prettiest girl there and ask what is going on.

If they were protesting animal something or other it was probably mostly women. And PETA chicks are easy!

Sheeeeesh.

its because the petland puppies come from puppy mills where the majority of the dogs are very sick, cramped in small pens, and overall just there to make money.

About a week or so ago, there was a news item about yet another busted puppy mill where hundreds of breeder dogs and their puppies were taken by Animal Control and placed in shelters.

The breeder dogs live their entire lives in cages. Some were so ill, they had to be put down, but, most are on the mend and after the holidays they will be available for adoption through local shelters.

This puppy mill has a contract with Corporate PetLand to provide PetLand stores with all its puppies. The news item said the Fairfax Store does not buy puppies from this mill which is a little difficult to believe when all the other PetLand stores admit they do. Thus the protest.

=========

I'm not associated with PETA - personally I think they do more harm than good, but I am opposed to puppy mills because of the myriad of health concerns and genetic complications they produce in their animals.

If anyone is considering a pet cat or dog after the holidays, I hope you will consider our local Shelters. My last four dogs were "pound hounds." They make the greatest pets.

Yeah, PETA chicks are certainly easy. Some of them are even sorta hot.

But fair warning: They usually have a bunch of gay friends, and they will harp on everything you do, lecturing you about "animal cruelty" for just about anything you do or say. I mean, EVERYTHING.

I dated a girl for a few months who was really active in PETA (I think she went to every weekly cell meeting in town, and even went on road trips to visit cells in other cities) -- those 3 months were like being married to a nagging old hag for 30 years.

I never realized how cruel I was being to animals when I did things like eat, or go to the store, or just wake up in the morning. Everything I did had something to do with "the animals". It really pissed her off when I reminded her that we are all animals, and since we're sentient beings at the top of the food chain, we take priority when it comes to cosideration of sustenance, comfort or feelings.

Other than the nagging, though, it was a pretty fun 3 months. ;)

Bob,
you should have pretended to be a treehugger and remind her off all the soil that is ruined and all the pesticides that are "poisoning children everywhere" by eating vegetables and stuff. then make an argument that only eating meat is the only way to save mother earth from deforestation or some crap like that. remember, the only way to fight stupidity is to use an even higher level of stupidity.

You can't argue with stupid. You can change your mind, but you can't change being stupid.

It wasn't worth it. I was probably 24 or 25 and horny, and not interested in helping her out of her hypocritical beliefs.

Nah, she was probably "cute" at best. She didn't become a hag, just nagged like one.

i know... it's just funny to see what stupid people do when you make even arguments. generally, the reaction you get is a frustrated confusion. it's super.

Dog breeders suck big time!

So friggin' many healthy, sweet animals being killed at the shelters because there are too many selfish a-holes out there.

Bob Barker is right! Go Bob!

And go PETA!

Umm, I don't know if I'm the one who's confused here, but isn't PETA against animal cruelty? If so, isn't Bob Barker anathema to PETA? He campaigns to have dogs' balls cut off.

I bet there are millions of dogs out there just hoping for the chance to bite Bob Barker in the nuts.

Nobody dislikes PETA more than I do but having once owned a
dog we bought at Dr. Pet Center, I wouldnt wish
that on anybody. The dog just wasnt right in the head. His name was Vincent.
After two years of housebreaking training I gave up. We gave him
to a woman in Pa. who owned a huge farm where he could run
loose and never had to be confined. He worked out okay there
but he was just not able to handle "city life". Soon afterwards,
we learned that Dr. Pet Center was one of the worst case
scenarios for wholesaling puppy mill dogs and of the horrible
conditions they seem to be famous for.

The problem is PETA doesn't practice what it preaches...

PETA staffers face 62 felony
cruelty counts in North Carolina
WINTON, N.C.––The scheduled first court appearance of PETA staffers Adria Joy Hinkle and Andrew Benjamin Cook on multiple cruelty charges was on July 19, 2005 postponed until August 16.

Hinkle, 27, and Cook, 24, are charged with a combined 62 counts of felony cruelty to animals and 16 counts of illegal disposal of animal remains.

Police sources have indicated that other persons associated with PETA may be charged as result of ongoing investigation.

If you are talking about the Petland in Fairfax, that place is HORRIBLE. They bring in puppy mill dogs then try to sell them for hundreds of dollars with fake paperwork. Went in there a couple years ago and found a dog I liked. Thing weighed 5 lbs and they wanted $1,500 for it and tried to tell me it was AKC approved with out any paperwork or proof. I hope that place gets closed down...

*No I'm not affiliated with PETA.... I like my steaks thanks.

PETA wasn't there.

Fairfax , VA : Compassion for Animals, a DC-area nonprofit animal rights organization, will host a PROTEST AT PETLAND

9404-A Main Street, Fairfax City , Virginia 22031 (in Pickett Shopping Center , intersection of Pickett Rd. and Main St .) on Saturday, December 20, 2008 1:30-3 PM

I hate those PETA people. Years ago I took my little boy to this donkey basketball game out in Maryland sponsored by the Don and Mike show. All the proceeds went to Children's hospital. I love donkey basketball. The donkeys love playing. They were even sort of smiling. Well on the way in to the arena, all these horribly hideous looking PETA people were protesting the cruelty of donkey basketball. They had acne skin and the women were as ugly as trolls and many did not wear any makeup or shave their legs. Just the looks of these PETA people nearly want to poke out my eyeballs after looking at them. I mean I am all for treating animals nicely. I have two 18 year old cats who are spoiled as anything but these PETA crazies are just ridiculous.

I would never buy an animal from a pet store. But I am sure not one of those animal rights nut cases.

trickie, you went to donkey basketball? I went to that, it was the second-worst smelling sporting event I have ever attended... just slightly better smelling than that crap the skins laid out last week.

Seriously, though, wish I had known you then! That was ages ago.

Reston Peace,

Remember I am the mom of a typical boy. He and his friend were in like 6th grade when I took them. My little Pat Pat is now 25. He had his birthday yesterday. We did all kinds of fun stuff when he was growing up. Went to Midgetville at night, went to Ocean City and bought fake poop for a prank, threw those little Pop Pops at people, went to Don and Mike stuff when Rob would dress us like Cupid and give out cigarettes, I was kind of the tomboy type mom who did crazy stuff with my kid.

At the donkey basketball game, he kept looking at that Bridget the Midget girl. She was pretty cute. But then I got sick of her trampy self calling the station all the time to get atention.

Were you sickened by all those ugly PETA people too? I hate unfortunate looking people who let themselves go.

Hugs to Reston Peace,

Trickie

Dear Gravis,

If you take good care of cats, they will live a long healthy life. One is sort of stuffed or she might as well be. She is a cat like Mr. Jinx on Meet the Parents. She just likes to sit near me. I have to keep checking her to see if she is breathing. I had one cat that lived to be 21. His name was trickie, just like me!!!!!!!!!

Hugs to Gravis,

Trickie

Sounds like Takoma Park in a nutshell! They even let illegal immigrants
vote in local elections there. Sad.
