The new Wendy's at University Mall is open. And the place looks set up to be quite profitable.
They are collecting the 6% sales tax AND a 4% meals tax.
Too bad they are in the county, not Fairfax City, and there is no meals tax.

Just got back from Wendy's...quite the goat rodeo. Apparently all of the registers except for drive thru stopped working and they were taking orders by hand...cash only. I felt badly for the people working the counter, but the manager was totally worthless. Instead of closing the drive thru and trying to help the customers inside he basically put up has hands. The only upside is that I got my meal for free when I did not have enough cash even though I suggested that they simply run the order through the drive thru.

The guy at the counter said something about charging 4.3% when he was figuring the order total on his phone, but since they could not take credit cards and I only had $5 (the bill was a little over $9) they gave me the food for free instead of tossing it in the trash.

Tsk. The mark of a poorly managed fast food joint. I've seen this; I was also in a busy McDonald's once (yeah, I know, but sometimes it's the only option!) when the power went out. Without missing a beat, the cashiers all reached under the counter and pulled out calculators and pads. Didn't miss a beat.
