Sunoco station wanted to hold my credit card while I fueled
Posted by: Fred Norris ()

I was getting gas at a Sunoco station in Vienna (the one across the street from the McDonald's) and when I tried to pump gas it said network error. I went inside and he said he had to hold my credit card while I pumped gas. I don't know why they would have to do this. I hope they didn't write my credit card number down.

They should not holding onto your credit card for anything. If you had to go in, one swipe should have done it. Might be worth calling them today and asking to speak to the manager or the owner.

Call Sunoco Corp. and tell them the situation. Many companies are jumpy due to the holidays and everything else going on with fraud of plastic.

Take a deep breath - Calm down before you call - Don't be a ass.

So many young asshole punks think it's cool to go around ripping other people off. Hence, if there is a glitch in pump electronics, a station owner must put some other means of assuring payment into effect.

I stopped at a Sunoco station (or what I thought was a Sunoco station) in NC this past summer and the pump rejected my card. Went inside and the towel head said he didnt know what was wrong but to give him my card. I said fuck you, im not giving you my card and called the 800 number on the back. They told me I was at a "not real" Sunoco station. Huh? It had a giant Sunoco sign and Sunoco logos on the pumps and everywhere. The person on the phone insisted it was NOT an authorized Sunoco station. Very weird. I just moved on and bought gas somewhere else.

It has to be an "authorized" Sunoco franchise. More likely it's an issue with the Sunoco software that they use for transactions. My understanding is that the company doesn't have one gold image standard. Either way, if you're paying for gas and you slide your card at the pump, your bank should allow that purchase to go thru.

young asshole punks are the last people you need to worry about when it comes to being ripped off. They should have a paper transaction machine, no need to write anything of mine down. I'd just go to the next station.

If the outside pumps are not working the cashier can do it inside for you. if you tell him 40.00 he can authorize the pump using your card. if you tell him you want to fill it up, he has no idea how much to set the pump for. so he authorizes the pump and you fill it up then he runs the amount you pumped on the card. That is why he holds it for you to sign the receipt and not just drive off and say you were never there. If it happens again, tell the cashier how much you want exactly then he can run your card and not have to hold it.

The posts here and the ineptitude that the posters have is a clear result of the effects of liberalism. You people are too fucking pathetic. How do liberals make it through a day?

It's truly astounding how a person as retarded as yourself has learned to use a computer. This is truly a credit to the effect of liberalism on our education system. God bless you, dear retarded poster!

Easy. The knowledge that our mere existence is driving you crazy sustains us.

The pump was just creating an error related to your card. All credit purchases are prepaid now. Therefore he held your card to give you access to gasoline and charge you inside once you finiahed pumping.

No big deal. Get over it.

SUNOCO is the worst place to get gas. The customer service people are ALWAYS Asian or middle eastern and they ARE ALWAYS rude and lack customer service all the while making you pay more for their gas and giving u less gas. Once their faulty gas station overflowed gas from the pump into a puddle the korean guy working there would do nothing about it and made me pay.
