Kate's irish pub closed. That plaza is now dead. Hopefully something decent takes over the old Fischers Hardware.

We seriously do need one. We have more than enough pretentious bars where everyone is out to impress each other. Give me cheap beer, cheap conversation and cheap women.

There are already several shady dive bars nearby. What is needed is a good restaurant. There is really not much around except for Mike's Am. Grill. It's always packed which shows there is a demand.

Which ones are you referring to? I want a dive but I dont want to be down in the mud dive.

That wasn't my post, but I have to agree -- there aren't any neighborhood bars left in Springfield. No place that is inexpensive, non-smoking, serves food and has music.

Fast Eddies -- cheap Happy hour; lousy bar area; smoking; primarily pool
Hard Times -- cheap Happy Hour; nice bar area; smoking; still primarily pool
Mikes -- no Happy Hour; why spend $5 for a Miller light?
Moe's Peyton Place -- small bar, OK prices; smoking; music on weekends
JW & Friends -- nice bar; need to check on smoking status; music on weekends

There are additional places in Kingstown, but that's not Spfld. Of course there's also Paper Moon and 1320 but they serve a different purpose.

I made the mistake of going in a couple of the above places. What the fuck? I thought smoking was illegal in VA? It looks like they found some way to skirt the law. In any event I turned around and left immediately. They need to provide gas masks and complimentary laundry service if they want more business.

Yes there are a couple places a couple miles in both directions, in West Springfield and in Kingstown.

1. Moes & JW = solid

2. Kingstowne is not Springfield? Oh, yes, it is. And don't let the denizens tell you otherwise.

3. Paper Moon is a shitty clip joint with expensive drinks

4. 1320 is pretty much a great dive bar. That happens to have slightly-undressed women dancing.

Why did Kate's close?

There is nothing in Springfield the place is dead or taken over by illegal aliens, kinda sad, never seen any fine women there either, drive to FFX City or just hit 395, its right there and go to DC, ARL or south to PW and try and get some trashy girls......I bet they will put in a tile store or some shit

Fixed. Both places are filled with smoke. It's gross.

Agreed that Fast Eddies and Hard Times are too full of smoke to enjoy. BTW, Lucky's, is going non-smoking. Another decent non-smoking venue is Bungalow.

Kate's closed because the building had a number of issues (bad plumbing and leaky roof) and the landlord went up on the rent and would not help pay for the repair costs which were significant.

It isn't illegal, nor are they skirting any sort of law. They just happen to be compliant with the laws regarding the 2009 Virginia restaurant smoking restrictions.

I wish the younger brother at Kates.. the night manager would maybe try to find a new location and carry on with Kates or start his own place

Why don't you open a pub called "Elitist Pricks" where you can complain about smokers until you pass out facedown in a pool of your own vomit.
