Squeeze is coming to Wolf Trap!!!!!
Posted by: Radiophile ()
Date: April 11, 2007 11:39AM

Difford and Tillbrook are reuniting the band (I would guess with Paul Carrack and not Jules Holland)! Is anyone else excited?

Squeeze is one of my favorites. Intelligent songs about in search of romance, love, and eventual break-ups, and most of all drinking - which lead to the first three. Snappy melodies and memorable lyrics.

Anyone else plan on going?

who the fuck are Squeeze?

When MTV first came on the air they played Squeeze videos quite a bit, "Black Coffee in Bed" was one of them, and there were a few others I don't rememeber the names of. I used to like those songs when I was a kid but was never a big fan of the group. They must still have quite a fan base if they are playing a venue like Wolf Trap, good for them.

Squeeze is awesome, but I wonder how they will sound after all these years. Most of these reunion tours are disappointing.

I wonder how they will sound after all these years. Most of these reunion tours are disappointing.

Alot of times it is, but not always. I [reluctantly] saw KISS at Nissan 2 summers ago, and it was pretty fuckin awesome. They hadn't lost a step since the first time I saw them back in 82 or 83 when I was a kid. Same thing with the Iron Maiden, The Stooges, The Ramones, and Judas Priest reunions, those were all *really* excellent. On the other hand, I thought the Led Zeppelin and The Who reunion shows were embarrassing and awful.

So don't let the negative preconception of a "reunion" show keep you away if you really like Squeeze. I was never a fan of them, but I did like their songs, and think I might know some folks who are fans and I would probably tag along for this show if I had a chance.

there was no led zeppelin reunion... you mean plant/page??? Completely different tone.

I can agree on kiss though, I saw them in 85 (one of the Alive tours I believe), and then I saw them several years ago and a good time was had by all both times.

you mean plant/page??? Completely different tone.

It was the tour they did back in the early 90's, I think it was called the Unledded tour. It was Page, Plant, Jason Bonham, and some other bass player, because John Paul Jones refused to associate with them.

It was billed as a Led Zeppelin reunion, no matter what they called it. It was Page & Plant playing all Led Zep songs. I was SOOO psyched for it, but the show kinda sucked.

FWIW, I saw Plant on some DVD cable broadcast a few months ago. He is terrible. He played alot of his good solo and Led Zep stuff, but it was all restructured into new-worldish songs, with congas, steel drums, and xylophones. Robert Plant has ceased to be a interesting rock and roller.

I was at the show, meeper. It absolutely was NOT billed as a led zep reunion. They played several songs from led zeppelin, but that was tempered by the eastern-influenced sound they developed.

Anyone going into THAT show expecting pure Zeppelin was doomed to hate the show. No such thing was promised, and you got a preview of the show on MTV to demonstrate that fact.

Further, Jason B. didn't play at the show I was at, I don't know where you got that. Michael Lee, the guy from the album, was the tour drummer as well.

All in all I thought that show was one of the five best I have ever attended.

It was at the Meadowlands in 94 or 95. I swear it was the young Bonham on drums. I didn't watch MTV during that era so I never saw the previews, and I had very high expectations.

SORRY

I thought we were talking about the show at the Cap center, so I cannot say what you did or didn't see in the meadowlands.

I still think Bonham did not perform on the unleaded tour but I'm not arguing it anymore.

And yes, 94-95 is correct for that tour.

I thought that I was dreaming when I heard the Wolf Trap ad while driving to Dulles yesterday morning. Squeeze was my favorite 80s bands and one of best memories is having front row tickets to a 1985 concert at the Orpheum in Boston. The concert was simulcast on WBCN and I still have the tape from that outstanding live performance.

This season at Wolf Trap has a bunch of shows...B-52s, Steely Dan, Squeeze, Little Feat, and the Steve Miller Band...that I want to see.

I have to admit, you ancient-ass codgers hit a band I not only never heard of, but I went and listened to two dozen samples from them at amazon, and didn't recognize even one song. And I love new wave.

Apparently not as much as I thought.

Tempted, Pulling Muscles from a shell, Black Coffee in Bed, Piccadilly, I've Returned, Cool For Cats all got very decent airplay on WHFS back in the day.

Yes, I am geezer when it comes to that era.

Hey, I'm not ranking on the music man, relax. I agree artists now are computer-dependent, tone-deaf illiterates.

But you guys are a bunch of fossils. And you guys should be proud of having good music to hold onto into fossilhood.... when I become a fossil, I will have little to reflect on from my youth as far as music goes. Most crap today is not worth it.

I really wish I had been alive to see the real zeppelin in concert.

I'm with RESton Peace. I'm old enough to remember Squeeze and I don't want to see those old farts. As Grace Slick once said, there is nothing more pitiful than an aging rocker. Actually there is. Old fucks who are excited about seeing an aging rocker.

Maybe both Boston and Nirvana can have a reunion and play a double-bill at WOLFTRAP!

Twenty years from now, when this show actually happens at Wolf Trap, I will be one of those old geezers all excited to go.

Technically speaking, the Foo Fighters are a default Nirvana reunion. The two talented guys were Cobain and Grohl. The other guy was just a bassist.

Krist Noveclic is still around, he's playing bass for Flipper, who are a way cooler band than the Foo Fighters.

Cooler, as in, they were making totally kickass punk rock records and hanging out with the Dead Kennedys while Grohl was still in grade school.

Kurt cobain's taste in music was like his taste in women. AWFUL! He also liked Shonen Knife.

LOL "tempted" was the only sample song I skipped over. Of course I have heard that song, it was a local radio staple for years.

And to the fellow who put words in my mouth, I like this band now that I have heard them.

I see three or four shows at Wolf Trap a year. My wife and I usually sit in the pit. It is funny to see the usher/security old ladies sit at the corner of the stage in the pit rocking out. One old lady was really having a good time during the Meat Loaf show.
