Happy 4th of July - too bad we won't be saying that in 100 years

The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

- From bondage to spiritual faith;
- From spiritual faith to great courage;
- From courage to liberty;
- From liberty to abundance;
- From abundance to complacency;
- From complacency to apathy;
- From apathy to dependence;
- From dependency back into bondage.

We are in the Apathy to dependence stage

Obama is part of the problem but not the sole problem. Central Banks have created the bubble that will soon burst.

The reality today is simple. Without these extraordinary, persistent, massive interventions "the system" would collapse. The Federal Reserve is the system. The ECB is the system. The Bank of England is the system. The entire western monetary system Must Grow at an ever faster rate or it will collapse. That normally happens through standard mechanisms where the central bank lends money to banks and banks lend new money into "the system" via home mortgages, car loans, student loans, business loans and consumer credit. That's how "the system" works. There is no alternative. The moment that new money stops being generated in the system it collapses in a "credit crisis".

Since the western world is in a demographic collapse and a baby boomer bubble (where they are downsizing and pulling out retirement savings) the system is not growing. Therefore the FED has to artificially grow it to keep it from collapsing. Zero interest (negative interest where you lose money by trying to save), quantitative easing, buying government debt, buying housing debt... next it will be buying student debt. Right now all that money goes into stock market speculation and the corporate system.

The alternative is the collapse of the system. The result of all this printing, injecting, spending, interfering will eventually be a huge surge of inflation. But "The system" is perfectly capable of managing Massive Inflation 20% is no problem. So, from the system's perspective massive, run-away inflation is a manageable problem where collapse is unmanageable, unthinkable, and will not be allowed. What does that mean for the common family? Tough times.

The problem that I used to have was thinking that there is a choice. Once I realized that there is no choice it became easier to deal with. The choice is simple discomfort (inflation) or death (deflation and collapse). I hate that it's such a rigged, broken system. But that's how it works.

Not worried. You don't sound apathetic and neither am I. We're not the only ones who won't accept bondage. And this is not all about Obama. No one person can do this.

True. We are doing this to ourselves. Some of it is apathy, some of it is ignorance, some of it is greed, some of it is self-centeredness, some of it is laziness. More and more, we are becoming a nation of apathetic, uninformed, greedy, narcissistic fat-asses who define ourselves as groups rather than as individuals. We're fucked.

We've been selling ourselves out to China since Nixon, so of course it must be Obama's fault.

I love America, even if we're only mediocre in soccer.

We are the most fortunate people in the world!

It sure doesn't help when America's kommander in chief makes a speech to small business owners that "you didn't build that." Hard to keep a civilization going when the konductor of the train keeps firing cannonballs at the engine wheels, hating every inch of progress.

we know there are thieves siphoning off DC

who says USA is not going to hunt it down and win that war ?

who says USA is not going to challenge corrupt political families getting 20x what they should get: welfare

----------------
you can say the area has problems: do something about it

the people holding out on you are likely allot closer than you'd think: and in 4 car garage houses off gov tax money

don't be tricked into expressions like "nothing can be done" and "they deserve 4 car garages". neither are true and both are criminal in mind.

someone in this town has been shoveling money out (taking bribes, maybe funneling to other countries) of it and also into their own

fx co gets allot of funding. your problem is CLOSER THAN YOU THINK maybe next door , maybe a few blocks down

It was a badly worded speech, no doubt. Here is a bit more of the speech, which gives a somewhat different impression:

Quote

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.

It is pretty clear from this passage that he believes that individual initiative is important, but so is the "unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive." Do you really want to argue on the 4th of July that we do not have an unbelievable system?

He's correct but what he supposedly admires happened and was made possible in a time when his kind, instead of being part of that "unbelievable American system", they were freely (thanks to that system) meeting in various living rooms discussing how to take down the country or do it better their way. Now they are doing it. They aren't making that system any better for anyone but themselves--and they produce nothing but talk.
