Police: Fraud Alleged in Military Charity Collections

Man took money for charity he didn't represent, according to Loudoun county Sheriff's Office.

A Sterling man has been charged with acting as a charity worker for a local non-profit organization that collects money to support military service members.

William R. Pierce Jr., 52, was arrested May 23, and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses.

The suspect was allegedly acting as a collecting agent with a charity (Douglas J. Green Memorial Foundation) that he was not affiliated with. The charges stem from a report of possible fraud that occurred in late April at a business in Chantilly, VA.

The suspect was possibly soliciting other businesses and asking for cash or checks to be made out to him. The suspect also uses the name Randy.

If you believe you were a victim of this suspect, you are asked to contact Detective C. Perinis of the LCSO Financial Crimes Unit, at 703-777-0475.

Pierce is currently being held at Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

You want patch to give relevant details? To do first hand research and reporting? C'mon, they're busy enough just scanning the police releases and crime updates then purging them of politically incorrect language that might be offensive to the sensibilities of certain grievance oriented groups.

It's not the Patch's fault, this was the only information released on this case.
