Yup. Burglary + deadly weapon = Class 2 felony and potential life sentence.
It's worth noting that Virginia's burglary laws have a five-year minimum for burglary involving rape, robbery, arson, murder. However, like other states, Virginia has a one-year maximum for burglary involving larceny or other felonies (including kidnapping, oddly, which is lumped in with the rape/robbery/arson felony category at common-law).

So many citizens are packing heat and are just waiting for someone to break into their home so thay can blow them away. Sadly we are still faced with the reality that only one in twenty to bullets fired in self defence actualy defend anyone. The other 21 rounds end up hurting or killing a family member or guest or even the family pet.

Even though DC comes in 5th, what is the burglary to conviction rate there? Per capita rate? This is just about sentencing. If they don't catch anyone, who gets sentenced?
Va and SC proportionately have many more burglars in prison (or dead from armed homeowners) than DC.

Fortunately, an unwanted criminal who decides to burglarize (or rob) my house will face the Judge, Jury and Executioner all at the same time. Plus, the Virginia taxpayers won't pay a dime to put the thug through a trial and then cover some of the jail time / expenses.
