TYSONS CORNER, Va. -- A police standoff in Tysons Corner lasted nearly 8 hours but ended peacefully with no injuries.
The standoff at a 10-story condominium building in a gated community in the heart of Tysons Corner started after police responded to a call at 1:55 a.m. It ended just after 9:30 a.m.
Police reportedly smelled smoke in the unit and forced their way in and arrested the man.
A search of the apartment found nothing, other than two dogs.
The man, who is now in custody, threatened to shoot Fairfax County police officers when they responded to a loud music complaint at The Rotunda in the 8300 block of Greensboro Drive, according to Fairfax County police spokesman Bud Walker.
Walker says police don't know whether the man was in his own apartment or someone else's. The man did not have any hostages and the situation was contained to a single apartment, Walker says.
Police evacuated three floors of the Rotonda and took the residents to a community center.
"During this encounter, officers smelled something suspicious that could possibly have been gasoline. Out of an abundance of caution, we did evacuate three floors inside this building," Walker said.
The residents were taken to a community center but are now being allowed back in the building.
Greensboro Drive, which had been closed between Westpark and International drives, has reopened.
