Diocese Announces Decision to Pursue Relocation of Paul VI HS to Loudoun County

(ARLINGTON, VA) - After considering all the options available for creating a new campus for Paul VI Catholic High School (PVI), currently located in the City of Fairfax, the Catholic Diocese of Arlington announced today that it is determining the feasibility of constructing a new facility at South Riding in eastern Loudoun County. Integral to this process is the detailed assessment of the logistical, legal and financial challenges intrinsic to the proposed relocation of PVI. A relocation would not be expected before the year 2020.

The new complex would replace PVI's Fairfax City campus and be built on property currently owned by the diocese, with facilities to accommodate academic and faith enrichment programs, learning centers, extracurricular activities and athletics. This decision to pursue relocation follows an assessment of the long- term needs of the school, which was aimed at strengthening Catholic education both for PVI students and at all diocesan high schools in Northern Virginia.

Sister Bernadette McManigal, Superintendent of Schools for the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, said: "Paul VI High School is an outstanding Catholic high school with a national reputation for academics. The school is attracting more students, and PVI's academic programs are expanding. After looking at all the options available for Paul VI Catholic High School, we have decided to pursue relocating to Loudoun County. A new PVI campus would be a larger, state-of-the art school facility that would further strengthen its heritage as a leading Catholic high school."

"The Diocese of Arlington is committed to Catholic education, and I am proud of the record of achievement of PVI and all our schools and students," said Arlington Bishop Paul S. Loverde. "We are working to best ensure the continued excellence and success of Paul VI High School in a facility that is requisite to its needs and growth. The pursuit of a new campus for PVI in Loudoun County will serve to propel its tradition of delivering Catholic education at the highest level of excellence for generations to come."

Paul VI Catholic High School was established in 1983 and was named to the Catholic High School Honor Roll's Top 50 list last year. School enrollment is near capacity, campus facilities are fully utilized and site expansion is not feasible at the current location. A new campus would provide a world-class learning facility that will be equipped to accommodate future educational programs. The incoming PVI 2014-15 freshman class would be guaranteed four years of matriculation at the existing Fairfax City facility in the event of the school's move to Loudoun County.

I find the timing of this news release kind of odd. I had heard this information about 4 months ago. Not sure how the information may have been leaked. But, they apparently are looking to build in the area of Pleasant Valley road and Braddock Road. At the moment, that intersection is a cluster f* at the rush hour periods. Also, Sully supervisor, Mike Frey, is against a traffic circle for that intersection if favor of better alternatives.

This should be interesting to watch.

Doesn't Fr. Guido Sarducci's brother live in Loudoun County? He's a doctor of some sort. I met him a while back at a party or event somewhere in the area.

Paul VI could relocate to Loudoun
Catholic high school has been a staple in Fairfax City for 30 years

The Catholic Diocese of Arlington announced Thursday it’s pursuing the relocation of one of its high schools, Fairfax-based Paul VI Catholic, to South Riding in southeastern Loudoun County.

LCPS would not be involved in running the school.

Loudoun County Supervisor Matt Letourneau (R-Dulles) feels it would be a positive additional option for county families.

“I welcome news that Paul VI High School may relocate to South Riding in the coming years. As a product of a Catholic high school myself, I am strong believer in Catholic education,” Letourneau said. “Paul VI would provide Loudoun residents with a high-quality educational opportunity and would be a valuable addition to our community. The construction of Paul VI could also bring some relief to Loudoun’s high schools, which face continued strains due to a growing student population.”

According to the Diocese of Arlington news release, the process hinges on the detailed assessment of the logistical, legal and financial challenges intrinsic to the proposed relocation of Paul VI. A relocation would not be expected before the year 2020.

The new complex would replace Paul VI’s Fairfax City campus and be built on property currently owned by the diocese, with facilities to accommodate academic and faith enrichment programs, learning centers, extracurricular activities and athletics. The decision to pursue relocation follows an assessment of the long-term needs of the school, which was aimed at strengthening Catholic education both for Paul VI students and at all diocesan high schools in Northern Virginia.

Paul VI Catholic High School was established in 1983 and was named to the Catholic High School Honor Roll’s Top 50 list last year.

The school needs more space and the kids run across traffic everyday to get coffee. Please move to Loudoun.

Appears PVI finally got fed up with Fairfax City not letting them expand. A few years ago PVI purchased some adjoining property, but the city would let them rezone it from residential.

Maybe they can turn the school into the affordable housing they so desperately want.

As much as these dogooders would like you to believe, they do not take the expelled from FCPS.

They have their own share of druggies that they pass back and forth between the Catholic schools-they won't take FCPS's fallen angels.
