FCPS: A Simple Proposal

For "weather emergency" reasons, split the FCPS into 2 regions.

Region 1: Western Fairfax County.

Region 2: Eastern Fairfax County. Perhaps, all schools east of I-95 or East of a line that runs from Arlington through Burke through Springfield and down to Lorton.

This way, the western county schools can close due to slippery condition while the eastern county schools don't close for a little cold rain.

I like that idea. Here's a better map.

Fairfax-county-SchoolsMap.jpg

Clusters 1, 2, 8, and possibly 7 can endulge in their hand-wringing and shut their doors when it's chilly or when the media hype machine is turned to 11.

Clusters 3-6 can remain open.

have a better idea. make attendance optional on days with inclement weather. parents who are worried about it can stay at home and sing kum-bah-yah all they want.

those of us who would prefer that our kids.. you know.. go to school, can see that happen.

Are you an FCPS student? No? I didn't think so. Please mind your business. You know that when you were in school, you wanted school to be cancelled too.

Logical decision making within a local government entity is my business. It's every county resident's business.

Dumb ass.

Like the idea, but in some cases you might have kids in a middle school on one side of the arbitrary line and then another kid in high school on the other side. Let's face it parents are all the bright to begin with.

I recall one time that there was a 2 hour late opening, a parent called and asked if the school where her children went was in Fairfax County! The secretary said yes, so the parent then went on to ask well if that's the case is "such and such" elementary opeing 2 hours late! The patient secreatry says yes, since "such and such" elementary is in Fairfax County it will open 2 hours late. Then (and I'm not makingthis up) the parent asked the secreatry if that included Room 12.

Seriously, this really happened, albeit quite a few years ago, but it really happened.
