Is this what school age kids do on a day off now? Wait around all day and night to find out if they will get another day off so they can sit around for another day and night waiting to find out........you get the idea.

Yeah, um no, don't use that fcps.edu site. It's not very accurate. FFXU is much more reliable.

Are they going to announce that the 2 days next week for "teacher workday" are cancelled to make up for the lost school time?

It's not a teacher workday. It is a teacher in-service, required by State law. No, it will not be cancelled.

I am a new parent to FCPS. Does the fact that they haven't made an announcement about Jan. 23 mean school will be on time? I need to make arrangements if they are delayed/closed. Why have they not said anything yet?

Wait until the 11pm announcement. That is usually the correct announcement.

I think they are finally realizing they cannot cancel school because of Winter. Tomorrow will be as cold as the day they cancelled school due to the cold. This time they will just have to have school even in the cold because, well, its Winter. My kids are bored to death at this point...

State Law. Ha. What a joke! Implemented by the State Teachers Union Lobby. FCPS is falling behind.

The State Lobby of Union Teachers or SLUTs have made the 2 days mandatory.

Glad you're listening to the show, Will. But, I don't want you to appear stupid, so in a rare moment of honesty, let me tell you privately that teachers unions, in the usual sense, do not exist in Virginia. Va is a right-to-work state and there is no such thing as collective bargaining for teachers in Virginia.

Thanks for your support!

Va is not a union state. If you knew anything about the teaching profession, you would know that in-service days for teachers are meant as professional development opportunities for teachers to be up to date with the latest best practices.

Yes, but we all know that means catch up on your Netflix at home.

Why does that have to be done during the school year? We already give teachers 2 months off in the Summer. How about they use that time to catch up.

Is this what you do all day, sit around seeing if people are wondering about school, so you can bitch about it again

Because teachers work by contract. The 2 months you "give" teachers off are not part of the contract. "Summer vacation" is NOT a paid vacation. If you want teachers to come in during the summer, you have to pay them. And we know damned well you don't want to do that.

So? Teachers are off, which means they're NOT WORKING. Duh.

The other moron said just make them come in during the summer instead of having the scheduled teacher workdays next week.

I merely pointed out that they would have to be paid if they did. It's not in their contract.

There are Federal laws concerning forcing people (even teachers!) to work for free. Slavery is still illegal last I heard.
