Gun Show Advice?

Going to Chantilly this weekend for the gun show. First time and I'd like to get in and out quickly. Any advice on times to go, vendors, prices, etc? Looking for revolver.

Its always busy. Good luck, a fun place to get a deal, and the key is look around at the pricing. Yet get there well before it opens up, and expect to park far, far away.

Bring cash, go the last day. The vendors want to sell what they have and not haul it back to their store or home. Cash is best since it lets the vendors avoid paying Visa the service charge. Buy something that is popular like a .38 if you are seeking a revolver. Easier to find ammo and holsters. If you want to carry concealed get a snub nose 2". Some people badmouth the Tauras and pay more for a Smith. Taurus is just fine.

My advice is to grow a pair of nuts. Don't waste your money, you will hurt yourself and they will be banned very soon.

LOL. I take it you haven't been through tactical firearms training, nor do you hunt. Good luck on any gun bans, as each and every time, they've failed.

Obama couldnt get a thing passed right after Sandy Hook, keep dreaming if you think guns will be banned within the next twenty years.

My advice, don't go. Waste of time, waste of money, way overpriced. If you have an issue, good luck finding the retailer...

That show is not the place to get a deal. Sure it's convenient (except for the insane crowds) and you can see lots of shit. But the prices are way over the top. Youre better off driving to Richmond and going to Green Top Guns next to the Bass Pro Shop.

Just so happens Im going there tomorrow!

While I agree the crowds are large and the prices somewhat high, I don't feel like they are so expensive that driving 200 miles roundtrip to richmond to purchase a gun is saving any money. Plus I think the time you'd spend driving is less than you would spend dealing with the crowds.

Of course if you are driving to richmond or nearby for another reason, then why wouldn't you stop in for a look.

Look

No attempt under this admistration has worked and with the Obomacare failure its not going to get better. Stick with the internet sites . The prices are only going to go down because so many people bought up everything, choked the supply, inflated the price and now it's going the other way.

Any advice on how to find a private seller who isn't required (and won't) run a background check?

Dumb gun owner goes online and asks such a stupid question. Only a CRIMINAL would not want to fill out paperwork. Then again all gun owners are criminals.

I'm not so sure that the prices will really drop that much. The more that Bloomberg keeps sticking his nose into the business of other states, as well as Mr. McAuliffe getting sworn in just over a month from now, will likely keep purchases ramped up in the mid-Atlantic region for a while.

However, I do like the online vendors due to many options - competitive pricing, ability to build your own AR-15 based on the components you'd prefer, etc., makes the online shopping a bit more attractive.

Finally, next Saturday - November 30th, is a day to support your local businesses. Since the gun shops are usually locally owned, it might be good to show some support at the local level. You might spend $100 more, but then you also are investing into your own community as the gun shop hires people and then spends their money in the community. At the end of the day, it's more than just getting a gun at a great discounted price.

Taurus revolvers have a lifetime warranty but I never have been excited about them. There is not a lot of cost between a Smith J frame and a Taurus, $100 difference. The revolver to avoid is the Rossi. My favorite carry revolver is the new Ruger .38 +P. It is very high quality and very lightweight.

Not to mention if the state background check system goes down, which it does. Then you can either hang around for a few hours hoping it goes back up or drive home from a wasted trip. I am not driving to Meadeville, I mean Richmond, to save fifty to a hundred bucks. Most people that buy guns keep them for life. Over the course of the years what is a hundred bucks one way or another.

I've been to the Dulles Gun Show several times. It's convenient and a little cheaper than local gun shops, but it's still pricier than buying off the Internet.

Definitely check out Trader Jerry's in the middle-right. He's usually the largest gun table there. You can also usually get better prices from him if you pre-order online a week ahead of time and pick it up there. http://www.traderjerry.com/

The ammo guys on the left against the very back wall will have the cheapest ammo there, and have it in bulk. However you can still do much better online. You might find deals on the last day, but you're also going to have slim pickings. It's been a really crazy buying year and while buying has dropped off to almost-normal levels, around the holidays it usually picks up again (as with most other retail).

As someone mentioned, verify any "deals" on gunbroker for guns+acces and for ammo: http://www.gunbot.net/

Personally I don't like revolvers, but definitely get it in a common caliber. If you want concealed and automatic, both the 9mm Shield or .380 Sig238 are fantastic.

I bought a Taurus model 85 .38 Special last year. I like it a lot. It will actually fit in the front pocket of my jeans in an emergency.

Best time for me is on Friday as soon as they open. (1 p.m.)
Less crowded and the vendors are fully stocked.

While getting there when the doors open at 1pm lets you have first pick of low supply items, I refuse to stand in that line. I have found the best times are Friday starting about 4:30 and Sunday after about 1. On Fridays a lot of people take off work a couple of hours early and go to the show before going home. They start to leave by 5. Crowd thins out a lot by then. Sunday after 1pm the crowd really starts to thin also but its left overs of what others did not buy.

My advice is to DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE GOING THERE. Have some idea of what you want and why, and have an idea of how much it typically sells for.

Gun shows are only good if you want to touch/see/hold a wide variety of guns before you buy.

If you already know exactly what you want then its always cheaper to buy online and then have it shipped to a local FFL dealer.

It costs about 20 bucks, but if u join the NRA at the front door, they will walk you straight into the gun show in front of the line afterward.

Consider joining VCDL. They do excellent things to allow us Virginians to keep and bear arms. 25 dollars a year and they are right near the door next to the concessions. At the very least join their email list.

Check Trader Jerry's, he had lots of revolvers
