Dominion expects to restore majority of customers by Monday evening

Dominion Virginia Power says they expect to have electricity restored by tonight to 60 to 70 percent of the tens of thousands of Northern Virginians now in the dark.

“We have no definitive restoration times, we’re working to have the majority on tonight, with some extending into tomorrow,” Dominion spokesman Charles Penn said Monday afternoon.

As of 1:20 p.m., Dominion was reporting 62,050 customers out in Northern Virginia, with about 40,000 of those in Fairfax – including the Fairfax County courthouse and George Mason University – and about 10,000 in Prince William County.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative had about 11,000 customers out in Prince William, Fauquier, Loudoun, Fairfax, Stafford and Fauquier counties.

Trees falling on a major Dominion transmission line led to tens of thousands of outages this morning in Prince William County and Stafford. While most of those have been restored, thousands more are out due to fallen trees and lines.

“We're still getting outages as we speak,” Penn said. “In some areas the weather has modified, created melting, and branches falling down on trees.”

Penn said power crews are fully staffed and deployed and are working hard to get ahead of another expected winter storm Tuesday morning.

Several transformers blew up in Reston on Baron Cameron Dr. They are fixing them now.
