A 30-year-old Manassas man suffered fatal injuries Wednesday night after a crash while racing another driver on the Franconia-Springfield Parkway car.
The wreck happened shortly after 11 p.m. Witnesses told police a 2001 Honda S2000 convertible seemed to be racing a dark, newer model Infiniti, with both vehicles passing each other several times.
The Honda driver lost control coming out of a curve near Spring Village Drive, veered off the road, struck and embankment and a tree and landed back on the parkway, rolling over and landing upright in the southbound lanes, Fairfax County police said in a news release.
Brian Benjamin Blaine was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he died shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday, police said.
Police say speed was a factor.
