Pepco is reporting more than 5,000 customers in Montgomery County and more than 6,000 in Prince George’s are without power Monday morning, and in Fairfax County Dominion reports more than 47,000 without power after a Sunday night storm put down a blanket of ice in the region.

According to their websites, Pepco is reporting 5,048 without power in Montgomery and 6,143 in Prince George’s at about 10:45 a.m.; BGE reported about 34 customers without power in Montgomery and 208 in Prince George’s as of 10:45 a.m.; and in Virginia, Dominion reported 47,325 customers out in Fairfax County and another 2,543 in Fairfax City at 9 a.m.

Montgomery and Fairfax county schools closed, according to their websites, while Prince George’s is operating on a two-hour delay. Many government offices are opening late this morning as sleet turned to drizzle.

A winter storm warning will remain in effect for Montgomery County until 10 a.m., according to Alert Montgomery.

Due to the inclement weather, Rockville City Hall and all other city facilities will open at 10 a.m. today, according to a Tweet from the city. Montgomery County government is also opening today at 10 a.m. Maryland State government has authorized liberal leave for non-essential Maryland State employees.

Montgomery College has scheduled a noon opening for all campuses.

Fairfax County government is open, with unscheduled leave granted for employees, according to fairfaxcounty.gov. However, Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court are closed.

Fairfax City is open with liberal leave for employees, according to fairfaxva.gov. Classes and programs scheduled for city facilities on Monday are canceled.

In Prince George’s, county government offices are open as normal, according to princegeorgescountymd.gov. Bowie city government is open with liberal leave.

Federal agencies in the Washington, D.C., area are open under two hours delayed arrival and employees have the option for unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework, according to Alert Montgomery.

At 8:30 a.m. major roadways were accident free, according to a communications supervisor for the Montgomery County Police. To monitor street plow status, log on to http://www5.montgomerycountymd.gov/snowmap/

Today’s weather includes rain, mainly before noon, with highs near 39 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued a winter storm watch for Montgomery County on Tuesday from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is predicting heavy snow for the area.

I've been burning wood in the fireplace and keeping plenty warm. Those that abandoned our old ways are suckers, gold standard included.
