It's official= fairfax county is CLOSED for tomorrow.

Emergency Announcement

On Monday, Dec. 9, all Fairfax County public schools will be closed, and administrative offices will open at 12 noon. The following activities in schools and on school grounds are canceled:

extracurricular activities
interscholastic contests
team practices
field trips
middle school after-school programs
professional learning and training courses
all adult and community education classes
recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS
School Age Child Care (SACC) centers.

The School Board work session will begin at 12:30 p.m.

If they had gone with a two hour delay, that would put the buses out on the road somewhere between 8 and 8:30. Would the roads (side streets) be safe for buses at 8am tomorrow morning? I don't know, it sounds as though that would really be pushing it..even a 3 hr delay might not be enough with sleet/icy conditions + possible power outages.

So, ya, I can see why they made the decision to close. Kudos to them for giving us plenty of notice, too.
