New to the area- Which direction is Fairfax consisdered in relation to the beltway? I know it is west of DC so does that make it west of the Beltway?

If only someone would make pictorial representations of geography and put them on the web. Naw, that'd never work...

Hint: Google "Fairfax, VA" and then click MAPS and then zoom out a bit.

And to save you that onerous task: yes, Fairfax is west of the Beltway.

I hope this wasn't your geography homework.

I hope it wasn't yours either, because you would only get partial credit. Residents of Mclean, Annandale and Falls Church might disagree with your geography lesson.

Heh? Oh, you mean Fairfax *County*? True. I was assuming that when someone just said "Fairfax" they meant the City of Fairfax. My bad (maybe; actually, OP's bad for being unclear)!
