Thoughts on tomorrow's operating status for the federal government?

Government open. Schools 2 hours late. Which means my kids school will start at 11, which means I will not be able to go to work and will have to take leave I do not have.

The great snow storms a few years back had the opposite effect on this area that I thought they wood.

After that great and snowy Winter, I would have thought that this area would have learned that, yes, it can cope with tons of snow and that, no, things don't have to shut down for a little bit of snow. Life moved on and private businesses were open without a problem that week.

But after the government leeches enjoyed their week-long "blizzard" induced paid vacation, it seems like they shut down at the earliest sign of a flurry, hoping for another big storm. And the fucking weather "news" media helps fuel that charade.

You wasted all your leave time calling off earlier in the year, right? When you have kids you need to think ahead and be responsible. I, OTOH, am maxed out on my leave time and am taking off Christmas week using my remaining floating holidays. I'll start the new year with damn near a full leave bank, so I can take off every Friday afternoon to stay just under the limit.

I've worked as both a Fed and as a contractor and the Feds have no clue what real work is like when your job is on the line based on your performance.

When will OPM decide about the operating status?

I went to Total Wine Sat and bought two mixed cases of beer, and Gamestop and bought a bunch of used games. I started playing Sunday. I worked from home Monday and had today off.

I started drinking at 8am all three days, and played through both of the Medal of Honor modern era games. I haven't done this since college. Some friends went into Columbia Heights today at noon when the bars opened early, but I was already not able to drive. I switched to water a few hours ago, and am ready for the commute in tomorrow.

I only get 49 paid days off a year (26 Vac, 13 sick, 10 holiday). I need the extra days. I play a lot of golf during the warmer months.
