Herndon Parkway/Sterling Road Intersection (rush hour)

Hey Everyone,
Not sure if anyone has ever been stuck in the long line at the intersection of Herndon Pkwy and Sterling Road between 4:30-6:30pm, but it seems like they're trying to implement a new traffic pattern. Not sure if it will help much; but wanted to see what others thought about it.

Below is a link which has the proposed plan.

Thanks!

Anything would be better than what is set up now. do not go straight through the light, turn into the side street and turn around to turn right. The cops sit and wait, they will ticket you.

I personally think it'll back up traffic longer for the people who are continuing to go straight on Herndon pkwy. Assholes will still cut people off at the very last second of the light, thus causing more traffic/long line.

The problem is the whole intersection isn't big enough - 3 of the directions don't have dedicated right hand turn lanes, so all that flow ends up getting backed up unnecessarily. And the other direction (heading east) has a short left turn lane which backs up all the straight-thru traffic.

Those proposals only seem to address 1, 2 or 3 sides of the intersection - none of them address all 4. Can't they just cut down a bunch of the threes on the western side to give themselves some more space?

Just too many people in the area that the roads can't handle. There is no simple fix. And yes, people run the light turning left all of the time.

I have a small cooler, a six pack,a few slim Jim's, and a piss jug in the car.... I know it's wrong. However, It Removes the stress out of sitting in traffic. No road rage here..

I see this helping few with the sacrifice of others

I bet if they got rid of all those god-damned illegals in Herndon, there wouldn't be hardly any traffic at that intersection anymore.

Sterling Rd is more of a connector road for commuters from Ashburn and Eastern Loudoun. With the buildout planned around the Route 28 metro station, I recall seeing a new master plan that extends Davis Drive down to Sterling Rd so the traffic can get to Ashburn much faster by redirecting it to Waxpool Rd. Currently, you have to drive all the way to 28 or Shaw Rd (almost next to 28).

Traffic circle. Don't bring cars to a stop in the first place and they don't back up.

Ever notice how much better traffic flows on route 7 when Rt 7 is flashing yellow and cross roads are flashing red. Rt7 keeps going. Cross traffic goes when clear to do so and it doesn't get backed up.
