I'm surprised nobody posted anything about the Western Express police chase

I was in Tyson's tonight having dinner at a friend's apartment near where the truck finally hit the wall, and you can see the marks in the road where the truck's rims scraped into the road.

That truck carved some pretty tight curves into the roadway. I didn't want to try to follow his marks, but an 18-wheeler really shouldn't have left those marks.

That asswipe was all over the place.

How come nobody posted anything about this? That is so unlike FU.

In case you hadn't noticed, we were busy arguing over something much more vital... latin classes at a high school.

ah shit. They're trying to teach that shit again?

Next thing you know, we're going to be told how the moon landings didn't really happen, or how JFK was shot by a cuban agent.

The story according to Fox5:

TYSONS CORNER, Va. – Maryland State Police say the driver of a tractor trailer who led police on a chase along the Capital Beltway on Tuesday afternoon was a wanted man.

Investigators say the chase began at a weigh station in Hyattsville, Maryland. They say Vernon Edward Jones was behind the wheel of the Western Express truck which was being inspected, and police say he gave them a false social security number. But somehow, they say, they were able to determine he was wanted for violating his parole on a charge of assault with intent to murder in the city of Baltimore.

Earlier in the afternoon, Maryland State Police said Jones was wanted on a murder charge, but they later clarified that information.

Investigators say when they confronted Jones, 36, he jumped in the truck and led police from the weigh station along Interstate 270 to the Capital Beltway and over the American Legion Bridge. Then, he got off at Route 120 and drove into the Tysons Corner area.

Police say it continued for more than 25 miles, and Jones was allegedly screaming out the window at officers during the pursuit. The chase finally ended when Jones crashed into a light pole and went up a sidewalk off of the interstate in the West Park area.

Virginia State Police, Maryland State troopers, Fairfax Police, and Montgomery County Police were all involved in the chase. Officers put up stop strips near I-270 and Montrose and blew out several of the truck's tires, but Jones kept going anyway.

Investigators say Jones will face the charge he was wanted on in Baltimore, as well as other charges, including first-degree assault on two Maryland State troopers, who he allegedly tried to run off the road.

The truck Jones was driving is apparently owned by Western Express, which is based in Central Tennessee. There's no word yet on what was inside the truck or where it was headed.

They have pix and video on their site as well. Seems the choppers followed the chase.
Anyone know where route 120 is in Tyson's? Typical Fox news. Idiots.

Hyattsville? That's over in PG county near NE. The truck chase started up near Frederick.

Who the heck writes these articles?

Does anyone know where he got off the Beltway and how he got to Westpark Drive? I am trying to visualize this...driving an 18-wheeler at high speed with typical afternoon traffic and not killing anyone. I know that the police were using their vehicles to create a buffer, but still...

Fox5 said he got off on Route 120, don't you know that one? :-)

It takes you right between the two Tyson's malls, I believe.

At every weigh station do they check the CDL of the driver?

Sounds to me like he thought it would be fine to roll through the weigh stations and make some cash on the side. The truck must of had some problem where he had to get out to get it inspected and got screwed when they asked for his CDL.

I bet the trucking company has some explaining to do. You can't get a CDL with a felony.

Oh and smart move trying out run the cops in a tractor trailer. WTF?

I used to drive a truck so maybe I can answer some these questions.

At a weigh station, they DO NOT check the CDL of every driver that comes through. If a truck is flagged for inspection, I.E. overweight, lights (any of them, marker lights included) out, tandems to far back, etc. they will pull the truck over and inspect it. This does include "running" the CDL.

I'm not sure if you can get a CDL with felony on your record, but if you receive the felony once you already have a CDL they are not necessarily going to take it away from you. Most companies do background checks, but if this person received the charges after already having been employed by Western Express, they won't know about them unless you inform them. Anyway, the news reports said he had a warrant to answer for charges against him. He wasn't yet convicted of said charges, so it wouldn't have been on his record anyhow.

I believe Western Express trucks (as with most trucks that belong to large companies) are governed at 65 m.p.h or less. So, yes, very very stupid to try and run from the police. Even if a truck can run triple digits (some can), it's not like you're going to outrun the cops with a damn 18 wheeler anyway.

With an 18 wheeler, you dont have speed but you to ahve size. He should have run a few more cops off the road.

Thanks Matt0681 and anony, that answered my question.

I didn't realize that some trucks are governed.

Didn't you start this thread ... http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/forum/read/40/138147.html ???

I see you posting on that thread until well after the time that comment was posted.

If you really think someone is logging into your account, you should change your password immediately.

Might I suggest you don't use a password that is easy for other people to figure out. Don't use something other people know about you or can guess.

Think of something that you can remember easily that isn't common knowledge, and then substitute some letters with numbers, like 3's for E's, 7's for T's, etc.

And is it in Tyson's? Of course, Fox also put the chase starting in Hyattsville. Amd we all know how close Hyattsville is to I270. They(fox news) must not be from around here and don't know how to read a map either.

There's actually a place called HyattsTOWN, MD somewhere up 270 near Clarksburg, that's probably what they meant.

It's still a pretty amateurish job of reporting when you can't even get the names of towns and road numbers correct. It's local news fer cryin out loud, most people are gonna spot errors like that right away.

You do not have to be a competent journalist to work for fair and balanced Fox.

You need only toe the Party line and never, ever report anything embarrassing to the Party.

Most of the journalists for local news, not the anchors, as much, but everyone else are all just carpetbaggers. They'll probably live in 15 cities before they "make it big" and get an anchor job on cable or a network.

But then again, a good number of the people in this area are all just here temporarily, as well.

yes when u pull into an inspection station the first thing they ask for is ur drivers licence, medical card, and other stuff as well. there doesn't have to be anything wrong with the equipment for them to do an inspection. the officers pick trucks out at random to do inspections....(i work as an over the road truck driver, and been doing this career for 5 yrs now.)
