Now that you've highlighted the 12 schools that are accredited with warning, do you plan on also highlighting the 179 schools that are accredited?

We are the 11th largest school system in the NATION, and only 12 schools are accredited with warning? This school system has 240+ schools. And only 12 were given warnings? 2 of the 12 are special ed/alternative learning centers, btw. Genius.

Accreditation is a major scam. Its assessors are full of retired school admins and teachers. One hand washes the other. You play ball and sign up for the accreditation program and when you retire they give you a job as an assessor.

What is wrong with holding a school system accountable to do their jobs? They get paid for it don't they?

"12 schools only?" wants to give FCPS a pass on a dozen failing schools.

Try that with your car mechanic: "we have 240 parts on your engine and all but 12 worked properly... why would you complain or be disssatisfied?"

Only here you have about 10,000 students adversely affected profoubdly and possibly permanently. If it is not a concern to you, then shut up. Oh I see, you probably work at one of the derelict facilites...

Buy a clue.

The fact that ANY schools are getting artificial turf while ANY schools are failing is the real scam here. Bite me, Karen Garza.

Many of the schools in the list have:
>70% free or reduced
>60% black and hispanic
>40% limited english

They're also in parts of the county where most of us would avoid living

If you think you could do better - take up teaching in one of these schools

The issue here is not the schools or the teachers - but the lack of supportive and educationally experienced families

I'd actually have to agree with that statement. Too often you can see kids in the same class performing at different levels solely because of the support, or lack thereof, that they receive at home.

Explain exactly in what way these schools are failing? Do you have any idea what "Accredited with Warning" means? I think not.

Do you really expect non-English speaking kids of first generation illegal immigrants whose parents have no formal education and don't give a damn about their child's education to score at the same level as kids from professional white collar families who have private tutoring and/or obsess over every percentage point on their kid's report card?

The OP is a bit of a drama queen about what the term "Accredited with Warning" means. It is not an "F", that would be "Accreditation Denied." She needs to better understand the terms that are used and their meanings.

That said, there is bad trend going on here. In school 2010-2011 there were only 2 schools that were Accredited with Warning. The fact that it is now 12 is a reason for being concerned.

Not really. All things being equal sure. But common sense tells you when you make the test more difficult the scores will decline.

Virginia education officials emphasized that the new state tests are much more challenging and that the lower ratings don’t mean that schools are performing worse.

John Torre, a spokesman for Fairfax schools, said temporary declines in pass rates are expected when academic standards are elevated. But math scores improved in the second year after the new test was introduced, he said, and officials expect to see a turnaround in reading, writing and science as well.

Thanks for that tidbit of information. I did not realize that the standards were elevated.

Jackasses. No one is giving anyone a pass. The goal is to obviously have ALL the schools pass without warnings.

The point is the ratio of failing to passing. People want to point out that 12 schools were warned and ignore the fact that the others passed without warnings.
While not perfect, that is a commendable achievement with room for improvement.

Fact only twenty six percent of Fairfax County pass SAT and PSAT test qualifying for college admittance.

What is a passing grade for the SAT or PSAT?

Given that Virginia's average is higher than the national average, and given that Fairfax County generally comes in above the Virginia average, I'd hate to see what the Virginia and national passing percentages are.
