For the fourth time in nine years, a Woodbridge man has won big with Virginia Lottery.

Melvyn Wilson won $25,000 in 2004, $1 million and $500,000 prizes in 2005, and he received a check for another $500,000 after winning second prize in the Millionaire Mania game, lottery officials said.

Wilson purchased his ticket at the Handy Dandy Market, 13315 Occoquan Road, and the store will receive $10,000 for selling the ticket, according to lottery officials.

“I’m just in the right place at the right time,” Wilson, who retired in 2007 from the postal service, said in a press release from the Virginia Lottery.

Good for him, but it would be worth knowing how much of his income he spends on lottery tickets.

So in a semi-related story, I found that Dollar Tree has these great "fake" scratch off tickets that look very much like the real thing. I tried them out about a year ago at work and one at an Exxon station. In each case, I "dropped" them in areas where I knew people would go with hilarious results. The best one was the Exxon station. There I dropped it while I was standing in line. A Mexican guy behind me put his foot over it to "cover it". I noticed it out of the corner of my eye. Funny thing is no one in line tried to tell me (white and black folks). So then I left and watched the fun from the parking lot. The Mexican scratched off the ticket while at the register and thought he had won the $50k prize on the ticket. He tried to cash it in and the Middle Eastern kid behind the counter couldn't match it up with the ones he had, so he called over the owner. The owner put on his reading glasses, and flipped the fake scratch off ticket over and over, until he found the disclaimer on the back. The Mexican stormed out of there ripping it in half as he went. Hahhahahahahhahaha! Classic
