A Healing Garden Demo Twin Near INOVA Fairfax Hospital Possible ?
Posted by: cafetwinv ()

Healing Gardens are proven benefit to help people recovering from surgery.
They can be made affordable and for our fairfax community, Fairfax Park Services could be a logical partner .

The logical place to locate such "Healing Garden" Demo is perhaps at the former
Exxon Property across from the INOVA Fairfax Hospital as one good option if
Exxon will donate some land.

The second possiblity perhaps a second variation can be located near the urban
revitalization near the corner of Gallows Rd and Lee Hwy, where the new Target
and Home Depot Central are now located.

In the next phase, this urban renewal needs greenspace, and some housing for
the poor, now that all the expensive ritzy condos and townhouses are done.

Who can be a "champion" for such "greenspace" add-on as a "Healing Garden"
that helps people and neighborhood such as this Vienna__Fairfax neighborhood ?

Why not just use the park that is across the street or the other one a few more blocks down the road.

Posted by: Mr GFR (); Why not just use the park that is across the street or the other one a few more blocks down the road.

Conversation; Yes, parks are always good. And this idea does not prevent anyone from using the park. But "sitting in the park" while does have psychological benefits that are value added, it is not same as a "healing garden" idea.

the scientific understanding behind benefits of healing gardens are relatively recent and there is a substantial movement across the nation, particularly people who support high quality surgical medical facility such as we are fortunate to have at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.

We need more greenspace, and minipark in Fairfax County and extended bike paths and healing gardens in appropriate location such the "Twin" proposed here would be healthier as I have discussed at About Me

Healing Gardens for Health Recovery Patients and for Healthier Community Every Day

It's easy and it helps people the value added is far more than cost.

Lastly, for those Fairfax Residents, such as some who post here, go ahead and take their GED to complete high school diploma as some who do not yet have the academics, can inspire themselves to get their GED done so the value of image learning and simple english would be far more meaningful.

Images helps people understand via the non-cognitive skills to understand a topic. Cognitive learning and non-cognitive learning are complimentary and mutually beneficial.

If we are going to have a "Healing Garden" rather than a park, and presumably that means a set of rules designed to prevent users from turning it into another park, then Fairfax Hospital should spring for it themselves and set it up on their property.

Your idea, you do it.

Conversation: This photo posted by Nutjob Garden looks great for a possible "Healing Garden" Location with may be a pond or a some sort of a "water pool" structure for people and birds !

But not sure what the address of this place is and who owns it ?

More Conversation: I just did a Google search on "Woodburn Center" and got these three medical facility locations with respective addresses.

The first two are the same, a Fairfax County medical facility. I called the phone no given and someone answered and said that these two are the same and they are located next to INOVA Hospital.

Anyone knows more details about the address and owner of this property that Nutjob Garden posted today ?

Here is some addtional info I just found near this Woodburn Rod property proposed by Nutjob Garden photo near INOVA Fairfax Hospial as a possible
site for Community based Healing Garden site.

We need to know if this property is near this and who the owner of this property is to see if there is a "suitable fit".

The additional info I found by looking at the Fairfax County Office of Community Revitalizatoin website given below, and searching the address of the Woodburn Mental Center Community address__3340 Woodburn Road.

Conversation June 17, 2013

The photo that Nutjob Garden posted earlier in this conversation is supposed to be near INOVA Fairfax hospital but Nutjob hasn't said where this is located yet to see if this is a feasable site.

If it is, then perhaps, we can have a conversation with INOVA management to see if they would support the idea of a "Healing Garden" that can be oriented to people in the communities near INOVA Fairfax, oriented particularly to those who are recovering from surgery .

There are several options possible but constructive dialogue needed.

More than one "healing garden" can be possible on a neighborhood basis. It doesn't take a lot of land to get one going provided people in a neighborhood will work to make it possible.

Anyone can provide more details on this location or other locations in other Fairfax neighborhoods where a "healing garden" might make sense ?

Yeah, but if Inova owns it they'll charge $800 an hour to sit in the fucking thing.

Fuck it...let them. If people want a "healing garden" then they should pay for it. There is already to many parks around.

I didn't even bother reading the feed. My Father has had major surgeries at INOVA Fairfax and at Virginia Hospital Center (Arlington), within the past seven years. Healing gardens are a wonderful place for families to spend time when loved ones are getting the care they need. Never would have thought these places would have helped so much, but taking a walk with your Mom when she (and you, and your siblings) are worried about losing Dad, is very helpful. So much better than the hours spent in those awful surgical waiting rooms. Gives you a chance to cry it out, share your fears, and wrap your heads' around what could be. Just to be given the gift to wheel him around after he pulled through in those very gardens makes me so thankful. My dad is still with us, healthy and going strong.

I worked 20+ years at Inova Fairfax and I can assure you, they will not implement ANYTHING unless it makes money for them. They may pay lip service to a healing garden but they'd much rather build a parking garage.

I should say again, I didn't bother to read the thread. I will say this - the healing garden at INOVA Fairfax is where all the exhaust fans are and is really loud. It almost seems like an afterthought, so far as the location. I just meant to say the Garden at VA Hospital Center is very peaceful. Either way, when your Dad is having life saving surgery, you will take any kind of solace you can get. It's the small things that matter, and that may be where "they get you." I don't really care, just happy my Dad got the care he needed and, we, as a family, were able to find spots that weren't utterly depressing.

UPDATE ON PROPOSAL FOR HEALING GARDEN COMBINED WITH OTHER "HEALTHIER COMMUNITY" TOPICS__The Big Picture :

12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 404
Fairfax, VA 22030
Telephone: 703-324-8582

REF URL: http://www.fairfaxparkfoundation.org/default.htm

Conversation: The appropriate Fairfax County agency to initiate a conversation is the Fairax County Park Foundation as a starting point. In fact, I have sent them an email request for conversation on this topic.

But I am hoping some of you who would truly like to see a "Healing Garden" take shape in Fairfax County VA, would please contact them and request conversation and their initiative in coordinating such an effort to come up with a suitable plan, be it a "small stand alone" type or part of a bigger picture.

Topic 02: I noticed last week that the EXXON Corp Merrifiled Campus is up for sale last week. This property has 50 Acres of undeveloped woods (last of its kind in Fairfax County). It's an expensive piece of property assessed at $200 Million.

But perhaps via a PPP (Private Public Partnership), the "Healing Pond" topic can be develped if a practical plan can be developed to preserve this 50 Acre woods where the Healing Pond can take up a small portion that also allows us to preserve this woods for posterity.

Is this worth doing as a Fairfax County Community and make a presentation to our communty and to EXXON with an appeal for their support for preserving this last 50 Acres of Woods at Merrifled VA ?

Your Choose: Large Scale Commercial Develpment (RED) Or Healing Garden+ Woods For Prosterity+ Life Science__Engineering Medicine Labs at existing 5 Buiildings (Blue) ?

Red or Blue ?

Conversation: As you may know, EXXON Merrifiled Campus, adjacent to INOVA Fairfax
Hospital was put up for sale on April 11, 2013.

If this property is sold to large scale developer , that destroys the
93 Acres of woods, one of the last remaining in Fairfax County, then
the traffic congession can only increase in a negative way, far more
than any of us want.

But "purposeful" planning that preserves the "Woods" for posterity with
a "Healing Garden" for those who are recovering from surgery at INOVA
and other medical facilities in nearby communities such as Vienna, and
Fairfax City, can benefit us all.

The request Fairfax County planning conversations would ensure quality
life science and engineering medicine labs rather than massive large
scale office and intensive condo development that can have adverse
traffic congestion and possible adverse effect on existing neighborhood residential property owners.

I would welcome anyone who live in this district to join me in contacting Ms.Smyth so that we can begin to come up with a plan to save the last of the Mohikans , ie, most of the 93 Acres if possible for us and for posterity, rather than more concrete and more dense high rise commercial space and condo.

Take action anyone ?

You must not have ever been to an actual high quality elite hospital.

Theyre good at two things and their gynecology program doesnt help me at all.

There are no benefits of a "healing garden" nor is there a difference between that and a park. The benefit is some a relaxing environment that looks more natural instead of the stress of traditional hospital rooms that are cold and dark and have you isolated from the outside world. Anything that restores a connection to the outside world and provides a relaxing environment can accomplish that.

If the idea of "Life Science and Physical Science Labs" can be agreed as a good fit to top three goals that has been set by our wise Fairfax Supervisors, then "Labs with collaborative educational facilities" such as successfully forged between Virginia Tech Health Science and Wake Forest Medical School for one or two of the 5 buildings would be worthy of pursuit with perhaps GMU Health Science and Georgetown Medical School with a focus on "technology development lab' wiht graduate educational facility is a logical choice.

With perhaps a "foundation donation" as can be identified for such a conversion if our wise leaders and citizens of Fairfax County agrees that to be better option to "Large Scale Development" with more traffic jam and more pollutions and even more concrete tall offices and condo ?

Conversation: If we had such Life Science Engineering Medicine Labs near INOVA, then having a "Tech Innovators Family circle Cafe Twin" would be lot easier to inspire at Fairfax County as a "knowledge economy infrastructure".

"Social Capital" is very very important for any community, both on the arts and science side.
