TV recycling?

Any suggestions on best way to recycle 2 old tube tv's? Both over 36 inches, both still work. Ideally I'd like pickup service, as they're cumbersome!

Either donate to Goodwill or Salvation Army. At least one will probably pick it up.

Other choice is take it to the recycling center at the dump. I had a old 32" TV that I took there a couple of years ago. It was free and they took it out of my car for me. I think it was during a "special" recycling weekend so there was no charge. Not sure if they charge a fee or not normally.

It's called Electric Sunday. They have one every couple of months at the dump. They take the stuff out of the car for you (computers, printers, TVs, etc. - can't be other types of junk) and it's free. Very, very busy but very efficient. You'll be in and out in ten minutes. Otherwise, you can take the stuff to the dump, but you'll pay a fee and have to hurl it over the side.

Haven't tried, but I don't know that anyone will take those old sets for free. It amazes me how hard it is to give things away in this county. Most charities will only accept new merchandise.

The Fairfax County landfill will take TVs anytime. They just charge a couple bucks.

If you hit Burke Lake park after dark it's usually not a problem to just dump the things in the lake when nobody is around.

I have an old Sony 32" tube TV that literally weighs 165 pounds:

I wonder how much of that is copper?

Called these guys when I had to clean out my moms house. They are fast, good and cheap.

We have migrantes that come around on Sunday afternoons knowing that the gringos called for pick up the next morning. They snatch up pretty much everything. Just put it on the curb the afternoon before trash pick up. It's not failed me yet.

Or, the county hosts electric trash Sundays or something like that at both facilities. Check out the county website for the dates.

Sad, but true and charities don't want them because they become a costly disposal headache. Even if they work, they take up a lot of space on the sales floor and it is very awkward to move anything larger than 27". As mentioned before, the e-cycling offered by FXCO is your best bet.

However, if you don't want to wait you can always try the 'free stuff' section on Craigslist or Freecycle. We used Freecycle last year to get rid of a 32" TV and had at least 3 people interested.
