Is Koons a rip off?
Posted by: Jason Meia ()

Koons is the only dealership in 200 miles that has the exact color and options of the exact car I want. Only problem is the car is $7000 dollar above what it should be valued at.

Is Koons one of these dealerships where they advertise high and go in trying to wow you with 4000 dollars off as a sales scheme, or are their prices pretty set in stone and they are actually that overpriced?

I told them what I was willing to pay (a reasonable price) and eventually got it. Salesman had to "go talk to his manager" a few times, but it worked out. I will say the salesman didn't know shit about the vehicles, offering incorrect information several times. I wasn't there for information, so it didn't bother me.

"Only problem is the car is $7000 dollar above what it should be valued at."

It's value is what someone will pay for it.

If you don't think it's worth that price, grow a set and go in and negotiate it down.

Any car dealer will rip you if you let them.

An educated car buyer is their worst mightmare.

Koons is just like any other dealership out there. My wife used to work there and sometimes needed a ride. I would go a little early to pick her up and just walk the lot to see all the new models. Non sale week, they had a brand new civic up there for $20k. Go up for their largest sale of the year, same car, $24k saying on the window they'll knock $4k off instantly. Good idea is to find out if another dealer has an identical car and start at that price and try working your way down. Also, car salesmen aren't what they used to be. Used to be you had to be a good sales person to do the job, now it's just anyone can do it.

Better yet, use the Imternet and email to shop around. I bought at Sheehy Manassas that way, went in to sign everything, and found the "internet guy" had some huge number of sales over the next higher sales person. I was interested in a particular car with particular options and contacted a half dozen dealers via email asking for Best And Final; they all came through with their best and that dealer "won".

Carmax. I hate being jerked around with dealers bullshit and the games they play.

Shop around on the internet, get the lowest price and go from there. I ended up buying a car at Koons because they advertised 125% of the trade in value of your old ride. It turned out to be BS, but after threatening to walk I ended up getting the actual trade in value which I figured would happen. I got a good deal though because I went in with my price. Do your homework cause they all suck.

All places want to rip you off, its how they make their money. The key to buying a car is getting the dealers to work against each other, and accessing commonly easy sites such as Cars.com for research. Then give them an offer and stand with it, if they don't bite, simply walk out the door. It works 90% of the time, to get them to go with your numbers if you have done the research. End of the month, and also new model year cars coming out, produces a boom for the consumer looking for a deal as well.

Think about this, read it again, and think some more. It's called supply and demand if you haven't figured it out. Don't like it, pick another color.

You get 2 hours to spoon with miss Koons if you pay sticker price. They have a back room with a bed, its a sweet deal.

Koons Honda and Koons Buick GMC in manassas is not part of the Jim Koons Auto group.

I believe it is owned by someone related to the family, but you won't get to spoon with Krystal if you go there.

You can negotiate the price on almost any car. It's not that tough, if you have the balls and inclination to do it. Nobody who educates himself about the car pays full price.

I'm amazed by all the bad deals people get around here.

any dealer can get any color you want... they may have to have it shipped in. but yeah, shop around... i find some are decent about negotiating if you have done your homework, and some are hacks trying to fuck you. i only go back to the ones that are willing to negotiate. if they have to talk to their manager more than once, i'd hit the door.

dude i work at a dealership and let me tell you, any car out there that you want, your dealership can get as long as its the same make. if you have had particularly good experiences at a certain Ford dealership, but the one down the road has a better car, your favorite dealership can call that dealership and get the car "dx'd" in to their dealership. its pretty sweet because it helps us sell cars but also helps you get the car you want from the people you want.

If you have to go 200 miles for a better deal, it's still probably worth it.

For my last car I went out to the eastern shore to buy because a-holes here would not negotiate while over there I got it for $3,000 less. Also helps if you do a little research on the exact car you want and you're patient. In my case I watched this particular car with three dealerships over a couple months, then pounced at the end of the month when salesmen are looking to make quota.
