County employees get screwed again
Posted by: civil servant ()
Date: July 04, 2013 07:12AM

Well, all the rumors about the Governor giving all the state and county employees July 5th off with pay have proven untrue. He has done it for the last few Thursday or Tuesday holidays to give us all a nice 4 day weekend but I guess we just get screwed this time. I already called in sick for tomorrow and I suggest everyone else do the same.

Since when does the Governor decide when county employees get days off? Doesn't Bulova do that?

The county generally follows the states guidelines. Most Virginia counties do likewise.

By "getting screwed", the typical moronic govt employee means "they expect me to actually do something for all that money I steal from taxpayers?"

Yeah I feel for our county folks. Only 12.5 holidays and two personal days off a year. Wait! Thats 3 weeks in holidays alone plus two weeks of sick and three to four weeks of vacation and free days off when the county is closed for bad weather.
When you consider it all its 2.5 months a year on average that they can be off with pay! Don't even get me started on the teachers!

Hey Overtaxed2! Take one of your precious days and work as a sub in a middle or high school. You will see how disconnected you truly are from kids and younger society. Having your own kids is NOT going to help you sub as much as you may think.
On summer weekends and days like today (Happy Fourth everyone and thanks to all those who serve(d) our nation to make this site an opportunity for freedom), I get bombarded with questions and stories from friends who think they know what actually happens in schools.
I explain this to people: Let's admit that we don't know what we don't know.
You drive a car, but still take it to a mechanic.
You may own stocks, but probably let someone else manage the fund.
You may be an officer in the military, but until you have actually been in combat, are you (allowed/yes) qualified/no to pass judgment?
Why do you think teachers have it so easy? Go sub and see the front lines yourself. Then factor in the pay, admit your neighbors probably aren't teachers since they can't afford to live near you and realize how lucky you are to enjoy the high standard of living afforded here in America. God bless us all. :)

What kind of man would think "substitute teaching" to be a difficult challenge? Sit them down, shut them the fuck up and go thru the lesson book that was probably provided to you. Do you want us to wipe your butt and flush your toilet also?

Yeah, yeah, I appreciate and respect teachers and all that nonsense, but honestly a lot of you guys would be (and are) utter failures in the free world and marketplace.

Many teachers I meet have the personalities of jail trustees or plantation asskissers- none of them seem to thrive anywhere but in the closed and disciplined K-12 environment. They are truly masters of a very small and limited world. Sad and weak people, especially the males.

Why else would they choose employment where your biggest challenge is a smart mouthed 9 year old girl? And you jerkoffs who want to cry about how tough and gang ridden county schools are better find some more gullible listeners, I'm not believing it.

You fuckheads should show a little aprish for the taxpayer who helps your check get stroked every week.

Most FCPS teachers are whiny bums. Sorry.

WTH?! Why should the taxpayers come up with a full days pay just so you and your brethren can have another day off to make it a 4 day weekend? You want to get paid? Go to work! Or burn one of your banked personal days

Remember last year at this time we got three days off paid because of that derrecho storm and I never lost power. It was sweet watching everyone suffer as I cranked my A/C down to 68 and drank cold beer all day. My cable was out for a day though.

9 year old girl? How bout a 6-4, 200+lb nigger that says FUCK YOU when you ask him to sit down and be quiet in class? They expel these types of "students" all the time for physically attacking teachers. Some of the short bus crowd are extremely dangerous as well. re: some buses have TWO adults riding along in case a "student" decides to attack the driver as he drives down the road.

You'd run crying to your mommy after a few days at the worst schools.

I work in over a third of the schools in the county and have keys and access codes to almost every room, I have found teachers and administrators sleeping at their desks countless times. Teaching is a slacker career period. At least I get paid more than they do but I work 12 months.

Fairfax County serves itself first. They want a four day weekend, they get it. They waste money, so they raise taxes and lower services. They have statist inclinations, so they get enhanced powers of entry and inspection.

All members of the Board of Supervisors must go.

Sharon Bulova should be banned from participation in Virginia politics in any form.

Ed Long is a stooge, he should be removed from his position.

Karen Garza needs to get to work making schools places to learn and not play (meaning, sports, band, etc. are to be converted into revenue opportunities).

All of the school board members need a serious wake up call.

Come on-the post office is open on July 5th, why not the county?

If this is true...its not during class times. Who cares if a teacher catches a nap in a class room before or after school. The administrators sleeping at their desk is a different story.

One thing I will never understand about teachers. They bitch and moan constantly about how much they make. You know to the penny when you started how much you would be making so why are you surprised when the county pays you exactly what they told you they would.

If you don't have any work to do on Friday, either use your sick leave, or petition your boss to have your position eliminated.

The whole "I want to be essential but non-essential" thing is a non-starter.

Teaching was my calling. I barely graduated from Longwood after 7 years. I live a frugal lifestyle and I do almost nothing at work. It's a lifestyle thats not for everyone.

The first honest response from a teacher. The rest demand a salary that will allow them to live in a Great Falls mansion.

While not a teacher I have the same attitude. I have no desire to spend 12 hours a day at work and put in weekend time to make a better salary. I have no need for a huge house I hardly see since I am at work nor do I want to drive a Lexus or BMW.

I take long weekends off or a day off during the week. My commute takes me over 95 at the mixing bowl, I live close to my job so I have no need to be in the mass of traffic. I see people sitting going nowhere. Thats not for me. Once you live simple you get used to it and its not bad at all.

How does a thread not about teachers so quickly become a thread about teachers? Plus, the only people in this thread complaining about teachers' salaries are non-teachers.

They don't do shit. most of them don't even work. I love to work only 180 days a year. and the last 8 weeks they don't do a thing. the first weeks they don't work either so they only work about 100 days in a year

This would be a valid point if county salaries were not frozen for a good part of the last 5-6 years while the cost of nearly everything has continued to rise. S

It is a valid point. In private industry there is no guarantee of a raise, in fact there is no guarantee that your job will be there tomorrow. Many small businesses and lately many large businesses have lost many jobs.

If you don't like your job or pay in private industry, you can look elsewhere to market your skills. Teachers, who are well educated, lock themselves into a system where no one other than another educational system would want them. For the most part they have no marketable skills in the business world. Therefore they just wait out their retirement and whine about how little they make.

Welcome to the real world. Except that teachers after the first year have tenure like status. Unless they get arrested and spend time in prison they cannot be fired. You will not find such provisions in the private industry.

Non-emergency county employees suck. They are the lowest form of life. Welfare losers are better than them.
