Hello Gunnies,

I just wanted to say I do open carry. I don't all the time as people are stupid and I would rather get from point A to point B without being hassled. People do call the cops, and the cops do show up in force. I believe if it was more openly accepted then no problem. I do to and from the range or if I am out at night running an errand.

Walmart, Target, or the Grocery Store... NOOOOOO..

Cops are not used to civilians carrying as much. So when they show up, they are already pumped up or on edge. Also take into consideration what a person is telling them on the phone. " OMG, There is some crazy guy waving a gun around! " It can get bad. My 2 cents..

One little note for OC'ers.. When you do OC.. A lot of people don't know this, but when you leave somewhere:
Always make sure to take a mid-long route home to see if anyone from the place you came from is following.

Best way to find a gun you can't have is someone that just walked by with one.

With a high amount of goverment employees and DC employees. People know you will not be able to take it out the house to work. People will follow you home and wait till your gone. Plus it's beneficial for them as a gunnie probably has more guns.

Always be aware of that

I carry a whistle and when someone comes into a store I'm shopping in I will blow that whistle to alert everyone that there is a gunman in the place. As the whistle brigade grows shop owners will begin to ban these gun nuts from carrying into the stores. The Fairfax county organizational meeting is scheduled for Sept 18 at 7:30pm at the Centerville Library.

Imagine 500 people carrying whistles in the county. We can stop these dangerous crazies.

Really? This is just as bad as the people who advocate blowing your horn when you go over a speed hump as a form of protest. The only people who will be bothered by this are the patrons of the establishment and the employees. The smart business owners will pull down the no guns signs, and put up no whistle signs once they hear about the simpletons disturbing the peace (ya, that’s a crime in case you didn’t realize that). Legal gun owners are more law abiding as a group than the general population. So as to keep it simple enough for you to understand, the “average” person commits MORE criminal acts than a CCW holder.

If you were to do the research instead acting like a child you would realize you are barking up the wrong tree.

I hope you realize if you do this and 911 starts to get bullshit "man with a gun" calls that you will be charged with being responsible for a false police report. You will also be the cause of clogging up 911 lines that service serious incidents. You can literally be the difference between a person's life and death if you do that crap.

What a bunch of liberal idiots. All these posts claiming the openly carrying a firearm in Fairfax County will "cause you problems" is utterly ridiculous. I have openly carried for five years and never encountered a single problem in Fairfax County. If you call the police on someone openly carrying they will tell you it's legal statewide in Virginia. It's really only an issue in your liberal dysfunctional brain. There is a basic reason why most people open carry,in the winter it's easy to carry concealed in the summer not so much. Those of us that refuse to be victims will not waive our RIGHTS because a few liberal schmucks are scared of firearms. If you don't want your kids around people that are carrying firearms keep them home or better yet move to North Korea. You will fits in well there. Lots of free activities for your kids too, like mandatory youth marches and required weekly citizen meetings.

Most of the folks I know that carry belong to a local range and practice regularly. Frankly if you want to fear untrained people with firearms, stop by a local range and watch how horrible security guards, Homeland defense agents and local police officers shoot.

Virginia is a very PRO gun state so get over it.You will see people carrying firearms. SORRY THAT IS AN ISSUE FOR YOU BUT MOST OF US CARRYING COULD CARE LESS AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO REGARDLESS OF YOUR OBJECTIONS AND DISCOMFORT.

im sorry but your a dumbass. carrying a firearm is for personal protection not for the sole purpose of killing people. It is also a matter of prevention. If someone plans on running in a robbing a convient store they might think twice if they see someone with a weapon standing inside. And im not sure of your financial situation but not eveyone can afford to live in a nice place where crime doesn't ever happen.

How's it going everyone. First i would like to say im 22 years old and have always had a love for guns. I would like to ask all of you who do not like or oppose to open carry why do police officers carry there handgun. They carry it as a deterrient andto protect themselves or other. I see nothing wrong with civilians like myself to have a handgun on there person for ok carry. Also let me ask this what happens if your being robbed at gunpoint and the only person around is a civilian doing open carry would you rather just call the cops and just watch or would you rather have him call the cops and draw his pistol and try to stop such robbery

They also have a badge and uniform that indicates their status as an appointed custodian of the peace. They are authorized, trained, and supplied by the government with the tools they need to use the appropriate amount of force to prevent crimes and detain suspected criminals. None of this applies to the average open-carrying civilian. If I'm being robbed at gunpoint, I'd rather give the thief my wallet and phone and have him walk away than have some jackass fuck around and get me shot (either by the jackass or the robber).

Like I said earlier in this thread; If I walk into a store with the intent to rob it and a willingness to shoot someone, and I see someone with a gun on their hip, who do you think the first person I'm going to target is? I'm not going to think, "Whoa, that guy has a gun. I'm out of here." I'm going to think, "Hey, that guy has a gun. I'd better shoot him first."

You could get shot because it's happened before, dozens of times, usually by cops. You will get hassled, especially if you go near women and children or anywhere with more than ten people. Police may treat you like you're crazy, may shoot you and kill you, or may laud your exercising of your rights.

Use your common sense and you should be okay. Guns are a sensitive issue because lots of people will get understandly concerned/freaked out either because they are ignorant to your rights or because you really are a crazy SOB whose about to rob/rape/kill/kidnap them. Good luck, don't die.

That's really some nonsense. There is a HUGE difference between robbery and murder both in penalty and state of mind to execute (get it? HAHA) the crime.

By your logic, having armed guards at a bank is no deterrent, cops in general are useless because any petty criminal with a guy is fully willing to murder anyone with a gun.

Nevermind the fact that your burglar must not only get the jump on said armed citizen to maintain the element of surprise, but must kill him or risk being killed himself. It's harder than you think to kill someone with a gun. And all this risk for what now? $60 from a register and some skittles?

Of course there's a huge difference between robbery and murder. I'm not saying anything to the contrary. My point is...

> By your logic, having armed guards at a bank is no
> deterrent, cops in general are useless because any
> petty criminal with a guy is fully willing to
> murder anyone with a gun.

... that these armed guards and cops are trained and authorized in the use of force to prevent a crime. The average citizen is not. The average citizen is only allowed to use force to protect themselves or someone else if they have a legitimate reason to believe that their life or someone else's life is in immediate danger.

If a criminal is willing to walk into some place and pull a weapon (knife, gun, etc.), it's reasonable to believe that said criminal is willing to use the weapon and does not care about the harsher penalties for murder vs. armed robbery. If I'm an armed criminal with a weapon who is determined to rob someplace even if it means I have to kill someone, then I'm taking out the guy with the gun plainly visible on his hip before he has a chance to use it.

Oh, sure, you could argue that most criminals would just turn around and leave rather than take the chance, and I'm sure you'd be right 9/10 times. However, all that does is push them off to a softer target. Why try to rob the store with the armed guy when I can go to this other store and rob them instead? Or just wait 10 minutes until the Rambo in 7-11 has finished buying his taquitos and left?

> It's harder than you think
> to kill someone with a gun.

I'd bet it's pretty easy when you're similarly armed and he doesn't know he's being attacked until you shoot him.

I open carry all of the time and haven't really had any problems in VA. I've open carried all throughout Fairfax, Loudoun, Manassas, and even Manassas Park. I however did have a problem in WV. I was OC and the dumb ass Martinsburg cop mixed it up with concealed.

Armed guards are barely trained, you can get that in 3 days just passing a basic shooting course, in fact pretty much anyone that owns a gun can pass that course if youve been shooting before.

Cops while trained arent the military, they dont shoot every day or even that often and will go weeks without shooting. Only a couple times a year do they have to qualify and the course isnt even very hard. They get multiple chances to do so in their academy and out of the 6 months only 2 or 3 weeks is shooting intensive.

While some cops are very good shots, some are piss poor shooters. Despite what tv wants you to believe they arent all dead eyes like special forces operators and generally speaking the best shots were all former military or hunters where they already had a lot of experience or shoot a lot on their own. Their training is really quite minimal for people that make a living carrying a gun because they just dont get into shoot outs that often.

Cops and armed guards also carry weapons to protect themselves not you. They have no obligation to do anything to save your life. You can argue people with guns would be targeted first which is true if they noticed or your gun was in sight which is a big if when theyre going to have tunnel vision searching for badges or going right for the bank counter, but its a myth that some how the armed guard or the cop is some super weapons handler that has a huge advantage over people that regularly shoot and handle guns. Their one huge advantage is that they have a bullet proof vest if they get shot themselves.

wow.. can you tell by looking at someone whether they are trained?
I agree that if you are going to carry in public oc or chp you need some form of training, but not everyone who owns a gun is a "nutter" as you call it. everyone has the RIGHT to protect themselves, if some "nutter" is carrying and you are not you have no form of defense, and I promise if they want to hurt you the cops will not be there in time. the "nutter"s are the ones who are so afraid of every little thing and want to infringe on the rights of others.
